What do you think? Any associations or general thoughts?

For our first baby- it's worked it's way to the top of the list as both my partners and my second choice over Rosa (me) and Georgina (him).
Very comfortable with Beth for short.

Bethany/Bethanie is nice. I know two who use the full name, not shorten it to Beth. I also know a Bethany who goes by Beb.

17caterpillars1mouse · 21/06/2022 20:24

Ah just seen your update.

Congratulations on your little Bethany :)

17caterpillars1mouse · 21/06/2022 20:22

I think it's a lovely name. I know a 6 year old Bethany but no others.

It's quite unusual these days I think, but everyone knows it as a name which is a perfect combination. I don't think it seems dated as I personally don't know any adult Bethany's.

sweetkitty · 21/06/2022 19:39

Congratulations on your little Bethany, I am mum of a Bethany too 😀 my Bethany is now 14 and a stunning young lady who is taller than me now. She was an angel baby, a terrific toddler, a lovely little girl and up to now a good teenager. The girl does no wrong. The others call her Switzerland as she sits on the fence for everything!

Spanielsarepainless · 21/06/2022 19:32

Gorgeous name.
The Hebrew means city of sorrow.
A neighbour is Welsh and called Bethan.

Snugglemonkey · 21/06/2022 19:23

I think Beth is a sweet name but dislike Bethany. I think Elizabeth would be a nicer nsme if uou wanted Beth as a nn.

ChagSameachDoreen · 21/06/2022 18:39

Lovely name!

Ilikecheeseontoast · 21/06/2022 18:07

Congratulations! My little Bethany is 5 and has never met anyone with the same name. She loves her name and I’m sure your little one will too xx

neverwinternights · 21/06/2022 17:46

Love Bethany, such a sweet name

DurdleSnore · 21/06/2022 16:53

Congratulations! I love the name Bethany, fab choice :)

HelloBunny · 21/06/2022 14:40

Awh, I was hoping it was a lovely name update! Well done to you & baby Bethany!

JuneySunshine · 21/06/2022 12:18

Thanks everyone. My daughter is Bethany. Born on March 11th 😊we love it and response from family and friends has been nice (although I guess the wouldn't say otherwise!)
My mum who is hard to please said she'd never have thought of it but really likes it.

On MN and in RL there will be people who love and loathe every name. Many of those who don’t particularly like it will have kids with names YOU really don’t like.

SausageAndCash · 21/06/2022 10:32

Bethany is great!

FT123456 · 21/06/2022 10:28

I quite like Bethany, as it's not to common.

Ilovedthe70s · 21/06/2022 10:13

Lovely name, the Bethany I know is in her early 40’s. She loves her name and, whilst not minding Beth, will always introduce herself as Bethany.

She is a beautiful person so the name has only good nuances for me.

KirstenBlest · 21/06/2022 10:05

Dated, as is Bethan. Beth on it's own is nicer

If you put Elizabeth on the birth certificate but only introduce her as Beth, she won't be Liz/Lizzie

I like Georgina and Rosa

RamblingEclectic · 21/06/2022 09:32

I think it's nice, though prefer Bethia.

The Bethanys I know are in their early 20s, one is a cousin of mine, so it's not old fashioned to me, though most of the ones I know do come from devout Christian families where it's largely seen as a timeless name.

AlpacaThatPicnic · 14/02/2022 22:58

It's a bit wet

agree! Seems we are very much in the minority though

jellybeans · 17/02/2022 21:01

I really like it but didn't use it as DD said she had a friend who was called 'Beth Fanny' as a joke and since then I can't get it out my head.

ChimChimeny · 16/02/2022 23:00

@Drywhitefruitycidergin

Fairly rare - I think she's only ever met 2 others, once on holiday

My Beth once met another one on holiday, I wonder if it was yours Grin

17caterpillars1mouse · 15/02/2022 21:51

It's a beautiful name. I only know one (she is 5). I personally slightly prefer Bethan but Bethany is a lovely choice and probably quite unusual at the moment.

Rosa is nice enough but I think Rose names are having a bit of a moment. I like Georgina too

Classica · 15/02/2022 13:39

It's nice enough as long as it's not pronounced Beffuny.

StellaEllaIsabella · 15/02/2022 11:24

I know a toddler Bethany, usually known as Beth.

I also know a Bethany in her mid-20s, always known as Bethany.
I think it's lovely.

chesterlestreet · 15/02/2022 09:32

Can't believe no one has mentioned it was/is a name for one of the characters on Coronation Street. Baby Bethany now an adult but I don't think on screen for last couple of years
