I heard this name today at my dd's baby group. It's kind of cool yet strong, or what do you think? Might go on my list for a possible future ds.

It can be difficult to use a name in a different culture. There are lots of threads looking for a name that works in multiple languages. Some names work across languages and cultures better than others.

I also think it's a bit much when posters are derided for cultural ignorance. Am sure there are 1000's names I've never heard of. Am equally certain that some would work in English, others wouldn't. I know my name has raised eyebrows when out of the UK.

FWIW this one is a bit tricky in English.

Plato = one of the greatest philosophers in over 2000 years of "western" civilisation. A name to be proud of!

The name Alexander is very popular today. It's originally from Macedonia, an ancient kingdom in (geographically speaking) the north-west corner of the Greek peninsula. Alexander the Great conquered a vast empire, including Plato's home city-state, Athens. If we use Alexander, why not Platon?

In Greek it's Platon
In Russia it's Platon

Pla = halfway between platter and RP plus.

It's Greek, like Plato. Sounds much nicer said in Greek-and is a shortening for Platonas. The a is like an 'U' sound.

Platon is the Greek name for Plato. I absolutely love it but chickened out calling my son Platon in the UK.

My first thought was Plankton. Amoeba has a nice ring to it as well...

Are you sure it wasn’t Peyton? Also a dreadful name but marginally better.
