I prefer the spelling Mae. But a sweet name..

It’s lovely, but it’s been overdone.

It was traditionally a nn for Mary, so you could give her a fuller name like Marianne, Maria or Rosemary with May as a nn, so she has options

Only as a middle or hyphenated name. Both May and Mae are rare as given names in their own right.
