Angelica Joy or Evangeline Joy?

Or Angelica Faith or Evangeline Faith?

Or Angelica Hope or Evangeline Hope?

What's your favourite of each, and what's your overall number one?

(We are practicing Christians so although some of the names might have religious connotations, we like this, although I know it might put some people off.)

Angelica Hope.

@sadpapercourtesan

Have you considered that your child won't always be a child, and may not share your faith? In that context, the names you're considering might be a bit of a millstone. I think it's a bit weird and crass to name your child something so obviously agenda-carrying, personally.
I don't think it's a controversial thing to give your child a name that reflects their cultural or religious background... It's normal for people who follow a certain religion to give their children names that reflect the faith background they were brought up in and this has been common practice among Muslims, Hindus, Jews and Christians for centuries. When faith is the most important aspect of your family life, it would seem even more odd to give your child a secular name, imo. I think most parents are fully aware that their children could abandon the faith at any time, but that doesn't mean they don't raise them as secular by default.

I like Evangeline Joy :)

stickygotstuck · 10/02/2022 18:34

Angelina Joy is my favourite of the lot.

Joy is lovely, great meaning
Hope is lovely, great meaning
Faith is nice, nice meaning
Evangeline, really don't like the meaning for a person
Evangeline Faith - I really would not use it.

FWIW, I agree with the PP mentioning the excessively overt connotations. While all the names suggested by OP have similar connotations, the combination of Evangeline and Faith seems way over the top. And yes, I'd worry the child would have no options if Christianity does not rock her boat in adulthood. (But then I do tend to think very far ahead!)

@mathanxiety

That's true, but there's a lot in between "some connotations" and "thumping people over the head with the connotations". Surely you can see that some names are more overtly agenda-carrying than others.

Yes indeed, all the Aramintas and Jolyons and Peregrines really get on my tits.

Yep, and they get the piss ripped out of them on here Grin

I don't give a hoot about faith personally - I really like some biblical names and loathe others. What puts me off Evangeline is the vagina similarity.

sadpapercourtesan · 09/02/2022 21:12

@mathanxiety

All names come with some connotation, *@sadpapercourtesan*.

There is no such thing as a neutral name.

They are nice name but my initial thought was 'Serena Joy' and another poster said the same. So I'd maybe avoid Joy for that reason.

FolornLawn · 09/02/2022 18:48

Ooh, now Seraphina is beautiful. Seraphina Hope. Lovely.

I agree with this.
Luredbyapomegranate · 09/02/2022 18:36

Ah Seraphina in lovely - I had a wonderful cousin called that, and she was angelic. Are you sure you can’t talk him round?!

Luredbyapomegranate · 09/02/2022 18:34

Evangeline Hope

I’d worry Angelica would be Angie. Joy is a lot to live up to (slightly makes me think of builders telling women to smile, also the only one I knew was a misery), Faith is OK - but everyone needs Hope.

sadpapercourtesan · 09/02/2022 17:49

It wasn't an odd comment at all. I was pointing out that your child will one day be an autonomous adults with opinions/beliefs that may differ from yours, so it might be better not to give them a name that screams "evangelical Christian".

DH and I are hippy bushcrafty types. We didn't name our kids "Rainbow Silver-Birch" or similar, much as it would have been fun. Because our kids are people, and it's unfair to saddle them with a name that links them to an identity they may not want.

LlamaLucy · 09/02/2022 17:44

Evangeline

Siepie · 09/02/2022 17:17

Both Evangeline and Angelica are very pretty names, and I love the name Joy.

I don’t think that @sadpapercourtesan ‘s comment was that odd though. As an atheist who grew up in a Christian family, I am quite glad I’m the sibling with a ‘normal’ name (Biblical but also used by non-religious people). But then all parents - religious or not - name babies depending on their own preferences, as you never know what the child will think in the future.

RedToothBrush · 09/02/2022 17:12

Ang or Evie?

Personally I'm sick of Evie. They are everywhere. But I don't like the short Ang either.

CrackerGal · 09/02/2022 17:09
@Rosieposie101 Angelica refers to angels and it would be for me similar to Seraphina another that I love. There are different types of angels that carry different meanings.
Evangeline without the EV is Angeline. I had Evangeline, Seraphina on my list but DH vetoed both names. I do like Angelica bit prefer Angelo another name DH vetoed for our son. Talk about being unequally yoked 😂
I've never heard of Seraphina before but love it!

CrackerGal · 09/02/2022 17:08

Love Evangeline Joy!

Why do husbands always ruin baby naming? Grin You have an amazing taste in names! I love Seraphina and Angelo too 😍

Mumofgirls2017 · 08/02/2022 16:47

Definitely Evangeline for me!

StopForAMinute · 08/02/2022 16:03

Angelica Faith is lovely.

mathanxiety · 08/02/2022 15:28

To some, both Evangeline and Angelica will come across as pretty, feminine names.

I think Evangeline is more closely associated with religion thanks to its close relationship to the word evangelical. Angelica is obv related to angels but angels as a concept can carry a wide variety of meanings.

mathanxiety · 08/02/2022 15:23

Angelica Hope is my favourite
