Robyn or Felicity?

Froggyinthemiddle · 04/02/2022 19:41

Can I get some thoughts?

We have a new baby girl, and are stuck between these two names.

We both love Felicity, but is it a bit long? We like the full name more than we like the nicknames. Is it too much of a mouthful?

Robyn is sweet - but is it too common?

What do you think? Thanks Smile

Robyn

I’ve never liked felicity. Too fussy and twee. And the nicknames not great

Robyn is modern and cool.

Frankiefarr · 06/02/2022 18:09

I went to university with a Felicity that was always known as Flick and I was jealous as it was a cool name and she was really cool as well

Starryskiesinthesky · 06/02/2022 11:59

Not a fan of Felicity.

MrsTimRiggins · 06/02/2022 11:57

Felicity definitely, it’s so beautiful. I don’t like Robyn, altho that’s based on the fact I’ve never known a nice one so obviously I am somewhat biased.

Honeysuckle45 · 06/02/2022 11:55

Robyn by a country mile. Very strong, timeless name and not at all common.

ISmellBurnings · 06/02/2022 11:50

Felicity, it’s nice and I don’t ever hear it. Not a fan of Robyn at all.

SpongebobsPants · 06/02/2022 10:11

I really like Felicity.

Bear in mind that if you're not overly keen on nicknames/shortening, your daughter's friends, and indeed your daughter herself, may well have other ideas.

My parents chose a very short name for my brother, partly because they didn't want nicknames, and his mates called him by a shortened version of his surname instead! They all still call him this decades later. I remember one of his mates phoning and asking for him by his nickname and my mum genuinely thought they had the wrong number!

SirVixofVixHall · 06/02/2022 10:11

Felicity. The meaning is so lovely as well as the sound.

Theblacksheepandme · 06/02/2022 10:07

I absolutely love the name Robyn.

timestheyarechanging · 06/02/2022 09:58

Love both, and like nn Fliss or Flick (one 40yr old adult I know). My goddaughter now 18 is Robyn but since senior school has been known as Bobbie which you might like to bare in mind. I like it but her mum wasn't so pleased but is now used to it!

RaininSummer · 06/02/2022 09:57

Robyn. Not keen on the meaning of Felicity and in my head conjures up snooty horsey types who belong to the young conservatives. Apologies to all Felicitys.

ThePoint678 · 06/02/2022 09:49

Felicity

RuthW · 06/02/2022 09:48

Felicity is lovely. I don't like Robyn. Felicity is more popular though.

Gillyx · 06/02/2022 09:47

I feel like they are so different, Felicity so pretty, feminine, soft sounding and Robyn is definitely strong, and more masculine with nicknames of Rob/Robbie. I like them both but I prefer Felicity, and I like Fliss/Flick.

At the moment I think Felicity is more popular and haven’t heard of any baby Robyn’s for a while. It could be due a comeback as it fits with nature names.

DramaAlpaca · 05/02/2022 23:46

Felicity is gorgeous. I'm not quite so keen on Robyn.

Could you call her Felicity Robyn? That's a really nice combo.

Moonshine9 · 05/02/2022 21:10

Felicity - but I'm biased as I have a baby Felicity! We've had really nice comments on it, how it isn't used much.

Nicknames often develop naturally, in fact DD calls her sister Flicky which before I'd prob have said I don't like, but it really suits her! DH uses it too sometimes.
I tend to use Fliss or more regularly her full name.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 05/02/2022 20:57

I love Felicity.
Nicknames aren’t inevitable. MN has an obsession with (often very contrived) nicknames but many people are just called their actual name.

Lampzade · 05/02/2022 20:55

Robyn

PlantMummy87 · 05/02/2022 20:43

I know a Felicity in her 30s that never shortens her name and always gets complimented on it. I wouldn't say that it is a given that it will be shortened at all. I don't think it's too long at all and much prefer it to Robyn.

Luredbyapomegranate · 05/02/2022 11:52

I really like both, but I’d go for Felicity as I think it won’t become quite so common (and Robin blurs a bit with all the Rowan, Rueben, Romans)

I don’t think it’s too long at all. Lots of 4 syllable names about.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 05/02/2022 11:52

I love Felicity - had a lovely friend at school with this name.
Also really like Robyn - agree it’s nice for a winter baby abs also worked with a lovely woman at work with this name who was very strong.

Lemonweightloss · 05/02/2022 11:47

I love Felicity.

peaceinourtime · 05/02/2022 11:39

Both are nice. I knew a few young Robyn's who get called Robbie. Something to keep in mind if you don't like the nickname of Robbie for Robyn.

Shmithecat2 · 04/02/2022 20:18

Robyn is nice, but Felicity is lovely.

mathanxiety · 04/02/2022 20:14

Felicity is a bit fussy and long.

I prefer Robyn. It's lovely for a winter baby.
