Any thoughts on this name for a boy?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MrsSkylerWhite · 06/02/2022 23:45

No it isn’t.
It’s Jol-ee-yon.

WhoppingBigBackside · 06/02/2022 17:54

It's pronounced Joll-yun

lollipopsandrainbows · 05/02/2022 08:29

We have a Jolyon in my family but it's pronounced Jo-Leon.

SuperbOwls · 05/02/2022 08:06

I've known two in my time. One pronounced joe-lion who was a Cornish surfer dude, and one teen pronounced jolly-on who has very trendy, but quite normal parents. Neither were theatrically posh! Both went by Joe as a nickname. Use it if you love it!

Snoopsnoggysnog · 05/02/2022 07:56

It isn’t a made up name or non name! I can’t believe these posters saying that. Just because you’ve never heard of a name…. There are plenty of people on this thread who’ve met more than one, with different pronunciations.

Whataplonkerheis · 05/02/2022 04:06

My DC (15) has one in their class.

As someone upthread suggested, he is theatrically posh.

RedRobin100 · 05/02/2022 03:49

Mega pass

Flutterflybutterby · 05/02/2022 03:43

I can't even say the name Jolyon without imagining a skinny, nasal voiced, unpleasant, know-it-all little boy wearing, for some reason, green velvet knickerbockers.

lilPeeky · 05/02/2022 03:38

As it’s the name of a lawyer who took a leading side in the brexit campaign I think it might saddle a child with a world of unintentional issues. Like calling a child after any other diversive political figure

silentpool · 05/02/2022 03:28

Poor child will continually be telling people how to spell and pronounce his name.

MerlinsBeard87 · 05/02/2022 02:40

I really love this name, nickname jolly is very cute. But it will forever be associated with the forsyte saga so I just don't think it's useable

Cheesechips · 05/02/2022 02:34

Oh my goodness, the worst non name I've heard yet!

MrWhippyBloon · 04/02/2022 23:22

I like it. I pronounce it Joe-lee-on despite being northern and it makes me think of Rupert Graves (yum) and Jolyon Palmer, both of whom I like

BikiniB0tt0m · 04/02/2022 23:20

No

ThePennyJustDropped · 04/02/2022 23:20

In my head a Jolyon would be dressed much like Michael Portillo on one of his train tours. And would also be similarly aged, I can't imagine a a baby or toddler Jolyon but probably just because I've never met one.

MrsSkylerWhite · 04/02/2022 23:17

Like it very much.

AfterSchoolWorry · 04/02/2022 23:16

Jolyon, he wears red trousers.

I thought the people saying "it's on my list" were being funny 🤣, you are right? Are people just picking random words and amalgamating them to create names now 🤔😆

Phrenologistsfinger · 04/02/2022 23:07

It’s the name of a fox murdering misogynist so for that reason it’s a hard NO from me.

Laureatus · 04/02/2022 23:02

Just makes me think of the Forsyte Saga 🙂

Luredbyapomegranate · 04/02/2022 22:48
@tillytoodles1

The person who is considering it pronounced it Jolly On. I've only ever seen it written down. We are northern though 😀
I do think they should pronounce it properly, or it’s going to make him look really silly.

craftyminer · 04/02/2022 22:31

I'd assume the kid is named after a Pokémon

Synchrony · 04/02/2022 22:21

I know one in his late 20s. He is very public school and pronounces it Jolly-on. I've never heard the Joe-leon version.

Stroopwaffle5000 · 04/02/2022 18:20

I like it, but that may be because I have a lovely friend called Jolyon (everyone pronounces it Jo-lee-un) It doesn't sound posh to me.
