Just wondering if anyone is like me and is sad they will never use a particular baby name!
Mine is olive !! I long for a baby olive but no more babies for us!

I have a Matthew Smile It makes up for not being able to use Magnus!

@Fangdrew

Matthew ❤️ so sweet. I don’t know why it’s not more popular.
I agree. It’s a lovely name
Oli5 · 05/02/2022 11:24

Glad it’s not just me that obsesses over the unused names !

Bit of a different take on the question, as I haven't managed to get pregnant yet, so here are some names I really like but already know I could never give them to a child

Iphigenie (I think it's cool, from "Iphigenie auf Tauris") it's just too weird, too out there, also would be shortened to Iffy, which isn't good.
I always struggle to come up with any boys names, but I thought Sebastian would be nice, it wasn't until I told my partner that then we'd have a "little Basti", that I realised in English that sounds like Busty. Also not a good nickname 😕
I also think it's a shame that all the old German names have almost disappeared and been displaced but more global English (american) names, to the point where you hear one of the classic names and you only think of your 70 year old smelly great-uncle. Kinda wish more people would use them for babies again (in Germany obviously) but I won't be the one cause I too think of smelly 70 year olds when I hear those names.

I also have like a dozen names for girls that I love but definitely won't have enough children to use them all, so maybe in 5-6 years I'll be able to update you with the names that didn't make it

Alexandra - would have been DS' name if he was a girl

Peter & Alexander - both vetoed by DH (although Alexandra was fine which confused me)

Morwenna - vetoed by DH

Meredith - I love it but think the nickname of "Merry" is a bit too demanding for anyone to live up to

Scutterbug · 04/02/2022 22:50

Jemima

RussianSpy101 · 04/02/2022 22:48

@SouthParkCovid my DH has friends called Jarred & Brent!

RussianSpy101 · 04/02/2022 22:48

Valentina. It does really “go” with our Children's names but I adore it.

PinchOfVom · 04/02/2022 22:48

Beatrix

lisaandalan · 04/02/2022 22:46

Scarlet ( gone with the wind ) that's why I like it. No girls. X

Positivelysober · 04/02/2022 21:53

@Eileen101 I have a Caleb! He's 14 now. He was going to be Oscar, but there were suddenly loads of baby Oscars about so we decided Caleb and I'm so glad.
I have one girl and three boys. If one of the boys had been a girl the name would have been Zara. Love that name.

Jared
Brent

DH hates them 😩

scottishflamingo · 03/02/2022 20:15

Margot has been my all time favourite since I was young. Can't use it because it sounds too similar to our surname.
Elsie was close 2nd but was vetoed by DH.

SpaghettiArmsMurderer · 03/02/2022 19:54

Sophia and Lucy were always my top choices for a girl but were both used first by my two nieces.
Alice and Max - both lovely but clash with our surname.

Growbean · 03/02/2022 19:43

Hamish. I love it.
