What's your verdict on this girl's name?
I really love it. It's used in my husband's country of origin, but is still quite unusual (although widely known) there. It means peace and glory, so it's kind of a double barrelled name... I thought it could be shortened to Mira if people struggle with it in the UK. I quite like strong names with lots of rich sounds like Ms and Rs... My husband, however, says in his country it sounds like the name of a villager Hmm that doesn't mean much to me haha but I think what he means is it sounds like a country bumpkin kind of name? Grin we only go to his home country for summer holidays and Christmas though, so it's more important how people will take it in the UK. I don't want to go with it if it sounds overly pretentious or not particularly pretty to English ears... What's your opinion on it?

Sounds like an eastern european country!

PattyPan · 01/02/2022 10:49

I like it! I’ve never heard it used for a girl before, only Miroslav for a boy but I think Mira is a lovely shortening for a girl. Pp suggestion of Milena is lovely too.

meditrina · 01/02/2022 10:36

It's normally pronounced meer-oh-sla-va

It's the same 'mir' ('meer') as the space station

I quite like it - tend to think if the patron saint of Serbia, but I'm not sure if that's an association people from that area wouid automatically 'hear' (IYSWIM) if they're more used to it as a name.

Awful

KedgeIsland · 01/02/2022 10:31

Unfortunately, my associations with the male version of the name are with Miroslav Radic -- I know he was acquitted for lack of evidence, but he's a pretty murky character.

Mira is nice.

WindInTheWillows7 · 01/02/2022 10:27

It's pronounced Mih-roh-slava

To me it doesn't sound like a medical condition at all, I have known this name for some time.

I don't like it however, it sounds quite harsh.

Sorry, just being honest.

sadpapercourtesan · 01/02/2022 10:21

I had a very dear friend called Miroslava, so I love it. I think it's a beautiful name in any case. My friend shortened it to Mirka, but you could also have Mira.

HashtagShitShop · 01/02/2022 10:19

It sounds like a cream for an intimate health issue to me, sorry Blush

solania · 01/02/2022 10:18

I love it!

Tulips21 · 01/02/2022 10:15

How is it pronounced?
I read it as 'mirr-oh-slavah'
To me it sounds like a country too

HacerSonarSusPasos · 01/02/2022 10:14

I love the sound of Mira, but Miroslava does sound a bit easter european peasant woman (and i am eastern european lol).

How about... Miruna? Milena? Vera? Romina? Magda?

funnyasduck · 01/02/2022 10:14

I’m afraid it sounds like a medical condition to me.

Iamanicepersonreally · 01/02/2022 10:11

It's OK. It sounds like the name of a country to me.
