Alba or Indie

Hi - which one do you prefer?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Alba is the party of sleazy Alex Salmond, so I would avoid. Combined with the choice of Indie, does sound as if you’re a bit of a Scottish independence supporter .

Marcipex · 01/02/2022 09:13

Indie is nice, though I prefer India.

I’m trying to think of any positives for Alba. Egg white is what comes to mind.

I think as Willow’s sister, I would feel short-changed. Aren’t there any prettier names you like?
Rowan, Amber, Lindis, Daisy, Dahlia?

VioletLemon · 01/02/2022 09:04

Alba means Scotland in Gaelic.
Lovely name, Indie = Indiana Jones.

mangodreams · 01/02/2022 09:01

Not a fan of Alba
India or Indigo are lovely with Indie as nickname.

ThatsWhatHeSayid · 01/02/2022 08:55

Am I the only one whose mind is blown that we can (presumably) share a set of islands and not know the names of the countries / land masses in their respective native tongues? Confused

Would you call a baby Cymru or Eire?

How can people not know "the Scottish connection" Hmm....

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 01/02/2022 08:34

Alba for sure. Beautiful name and means sunrise in Spanish and Italian

FelicityPike · 01/02/2022 08:27

I’d use Alba if it was pronounced properly, but 9 times of 10 it isn’t.

MysticCT · 01/02/2022 08:27

I prefer India.

What about Sorrel ? That would continue the nature theme.

Sillybillypoopoomummy · 01/02/2022 08:23

I love Alba, but have you thought about Arla?

Lanique · 01/02/2022 08:20

Alba reminds me of egg white (albumen). Or a cheap blank tape cassette from the eighties.

Indie is great, but I would call her India and shorten it as it's otherwise a bit twee for an older woman.

20viona · 01/02/2022 08:18

I love Alba.

KaptainKaveman · 01/02/2022 08:18

I have a Spanish friend called Alba. love it.

HacerSonarSusPasos · 01/02/2022 08:09

Congrats, @Emilywhitwam!

How about Alma instead of Alba?

Alma Iris?

Lockdownbear · 01/02/2022 08:02

I'd go another flower / tree name.

Heather
Rowan
Violet
Fern

waterlego · 01/02/2022 08:01

I prefer Alba. Indie sounds like a nickname for India, which is nice but I prefer Alba. I am nowhere near Scotland and didn’t know the connotations of the name there. And although I remember the sound systems from the 80s/90s, I think that’s long enough ago and insignificant enough not to cause a problem. I know a little Alba who is very sweet.

Emilywhitwam · 01/02/2022 07:57

Thanks for all the replies ! She was born yesterday and would love to decide on her name today! It’s a little girl, a sister to a Willow Rose x

I like both. My mind went to Jessica Alba before the electronics brand (and I didn't know about the Scottish connections).

Lockdownbear · 01/02/2022 07:45

I wouldn't use either Alba is Gaelic word for Scotland so lots of things use it TV channels, political party, and various businesses landscapers or skip companies.

Indie sounds like a nickname for Indiana, or India not sure I'd use it either.

Buddhabowl · 01/02/2022 07:38

I like both, would probably choose Indie.

2Rebecca · 01/02/2022 07:30

If you live in Scotland and Alba succeed as a party being named Alba might start to feel like being called Labour or Lib dem and she may want to be a politician, and not in Alba.

gogohm · 01/02/2022 07:27

Isn't it the name of the Gaelic tv channel, also a company who made cheap hifis and TVs 30 years ago? Is it a name in Scotland?

Strugglingtodomybest · 01/02/2022 07:24

I love Indie, Indiana Jones was my childhood crush.

cherrypie66 · 01/02/2022 07:23

I don't like either amber is better

JingsMahBucket · 01/02/2022 07:21

@WorstXmasEver

Yes, I'm right.

You're going to name a child after a budget electrical goods brand from the 1980s.

Who in the world would care about this or even remember? You’re just reaching for nonsense.
Fleur405 · 01/02/2022 07:18

I like Alba. i wouldn’t worry about the cassette tape or political party connotation. It’s the Gaelic word for Scotland and the Italian/Spanish equivalent of Dawn.
