Would your own name work as a baby name now?

Mine wouldn't, I don't think.

It's Belinda, but I go by variations of it. Was very popular in Australia in the 70's. But I can't remember the last time I heard of a baby named Belinda.

Do you have a nice timeless name or a dated one like mine?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
YesThisIsMe · 31/01/2022 07:34

I think my name has been solidly lower-half-of-the-top-hundred for the last couple of centuries.

Roselilly36 · 31/01/2022 07:34

My name is classic, and is still used for baby girls, it’s a popular name, but I like it.

Bimblybomeyelash · 31/01/2022 07:29

I think Belinda totally works. There are several Belle’s in my kids school, and although they are Belles and Isabelle’s, Belinda is not too far removed.

stuntbubbles · 31/01/2022 07:28

Hit or miss: half the time here it gets called pretty and classic, the other half frumpy and dour. It’s neither plain nor out-there and would probably fit with all the tiny Mabels and Wilfs running around.

merrymouse · 31/01/2022 07:28

I think Belinda would work now in the U.K. - it has never been so popular that it is linked to a particular period.

2orangey · 31/01/2022 07:28

Mine's another 'trendy in the 80s' name (although classic in its way). I'd be surprised to hear of a baby with my name now. Guessing it will be back in fashion in 20 years or so!

MK19590 · 31/01/2022 07:28

Mine didn't work when I was a baby (most people had never heard of it) and I see it suggested on here now and again but no one has ever admitted to using it for their baby

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 31/01/2022 07:24

@starrynight21

I think mine is pretty classic and works with all ages. It's Stella, I'm happy with it.
I love Stella. It’s my dnievce’s name. DM was very Hmm when DSis used it, but DNiece suits it perfectly.

My own name comes up about once a week. Alice. Seems well liked.

PurBal · 31/01/2022 07:20

Mines Biblical. So yes.

Lemonlemon88 · 31/01/2022 07:17

Yes but most people these days seem to prefer a slightly different version

freelions · 31/01/2022 07:11

I suspect there are very few under 35s with my name in UK (and majority are probably over 45) but I can see it becoming fashionable as a baby name at some point in the next 20 years

Enko · 31/01/2022 07:08

No

But then didn't work when I was given it either. Its Lonnie and I've never met another.

autienotnaughty · 31/01/2022 07:03

@20viona

Yes it would, jessica.
Two Jessica's in my ds class at school
autienotnaughty · 31/01/2022 07:02

Very eighties name here would be surprised if there's anyone under 30 with same name

RunningInTheWind · 31/01/2022 06:35

Eternal… if you’re Scottish. It’s Gaelic and often pops up on this board.

NoResolutionsHere · 31/01/2022 06:35

My name was so popular in the 80s, there were at least 10 I can think of in my year at school, it's Catherine. It's quite old fashioned really, I don't think it works as a baby name now, it doesn't even make the top 500 on some most popular baby names lists. I do really like my name though, it's never offended me.

germsandcoffee · 31/01/2022 06:28

Mines Lisa so I don't think it's ever worked lol but given my parents choice in names in general I think I got off lightly 🤣

KKslidoff · 31/01/2022 06:27

I don't think my name has ever been popular. But I'm not arsed. My sister has a name that was unusual when she was born, but became popular about 20 years ago. So it's hard to say.

It's interesting when you say baby name though. So many people think names are 'cute' for babies and children. Failing to realise that one day there will be lots of middle aged accounts with all these cute and twee names.

20viona · 31/01/2022 06:26

Yes it would, jessica.

KKslidoff · 31/01/2022 06:24

@CraftMaker

Given that I was named after a Pokemon, probably not.
I'm presuming Eevee although maybe not spelt the pokemon way.

Although I'd love to know a real life jigglypuff. 😁

Fridafever · 31/01/2022 06:19

I was born late 70s and my name was popular then and hasn’t really returned. Its probs my due a come back at some point.

garlictwist · 31/01/2022 06:07

My name is very 90s (even though I was born in the early 80s) but I think it could work, yes.

miltonj · 31/01/2022 05:37

Mine was very rare in the 90s when I was given it but becoming popular now, but with a different spelling. My spelling is still very rare.

MissedItByThisMuch · 31/01/2022 05:26

Nope. Very much of its time. And awful, I hate it. It’s Jacqueline.

BusterGonad · 31/01/2022 05:26

Mine would easily be a nice name for a child today, it's not unusual but not super popular either. I can't recall any other during my school years at all, but strangely at one of my work places I was one of three! I've not met another since. There's no negative connotations to my names, and only a few famous ones, usually from the upper classes.
