We've definitely decided on Eileen, but are stuck for a middle name that sounds nice with it. Any ideas, please?

My Nan was Eileen Alice. She was known as Eily when she was little.

I teach a teenage Eileen, it suits her. I wouldn't imagine many of her peers know the song. Nor some of her teachers for that matter!

Eileen Dexy

Sounds cute. And it’s a nice tribute to the band.

Luredbyapomegranate · 30/01/2022 21:41

@BigYellowHat

Are you giving birth to a 50 year old?
50 year olds are called Sarah and Claire

80 and 90 year olds are called Eileen

Which probably means it’s due a revival. If Arnold, Ernest, Jean and Vera are all on the rise, it’s probably next.

You do know that every 50 year old was once a cute baby Hmm

Eileen Joy
Eileen Grace
Eileen Anne

And more importantly every cute baby will only be a cute baby for a year, two years if they’re particularly cute.

Too many people name a baby and don’t bother about the fact that they’ll be an adult most of their life.

celestebellman · 30/01/2022 21:29

I don't think the song is going to be massively on her peers' radars.

I get that people probably currently think of someone in their sixties being called Eileen, but if you remove this connotation it is quite a nice sound - and the initial syllable fits with the trendy vowel heavy names such as Isla/ Ella so it's not much of a departure.

I think it will be ahead of its time, and possibly quite fashionable in around 20 years!

What a vacuous comment.
Iamtheweedonkey · 30/01/2022 20:38

Jeez! There are some beautiful, classic names that you can use. Eileen is not one of them.

Aw I like it! I’ve only ever known one Eileen - a Scottish lady, she’d be in her 60s now.

I like Eileen Kate or Eileen Mary

@AmbushedByTheCake

I am secondary school teacher so I have come across a huge variety of names.

Unless you have a very very strong, inexorable reason, I would think carefully about calling her that.

Confused

And why is that? I’d understand if she was naming her Princess-Pants or naming a boy Amelia or calling the child Lemonade but this is just a name. It’s not like there’s some dark association with it. Obviously there’s come on Eileen which as a sentence isn’t great but give her a good middle name and if it’s intolerable she can use that.

@Kanaloa

Really like suggestions if Eileen Isabelle and Eileen Alexandra! Both really nice.

I wouldn’t worry too much about come on Eileen. It’s not really a bad association, is it? And you could pick any name and then a year later have a song/movie etc released that goes crazy popular and leads to your child listening to choruses of it forever.

I agree with this. How many of her peers will know the song as well. We only know it because we're old enough.

Apart from my own (amazing) suggestion, I also like Eileen Miranda 😍. Gorgeous!

janicewheeler · 30/01/2022 20:17

PurplePansy05 · 30/01/2022 20:15

HerRoyalHappiness · 30/01/2022 20:10

Eileen Rose (yes I know Rose as a middle name is scoffed at on here but I love the name Rose)

Eileen Marie

Eileen Frances

Eileen Felicity

Eileen Alexandra

JessicaJacket · 30/01/2022 20:09

Jean has made a comeback recently, so I see no reason why Eileen shouldn't.

I know an Esme who is in her 80s and she couldn't believe it when her name made a comeback, but Esmes are everywhere now

DoNotIron · 30/01/2022 20:07

@Santahasjoinedww

Come on Eileen... Years and years of this. Poor kid.
I had this when the song was released in the eighties. It wasn't so bad!

Maybe I will start to like my name if it makes a comeback. Always hated it. I'm 54 and it was old fashioned when my parents picked it. Everyone had an Auntie Eileen or a granny called Eileen! Maybe it's finally so old it's cool.

JessicaJacket · 30/01/2022 20:03

It's got to be Talullah! Come on Eileen Talullah hey

Ps: I love Eileen. Definitely due a revival!

SE13Mummy · 30/01/2022 20:01

Something along the lines of Mary, Kate, Beatrice, Megan, Harriet... or anything that doesn't have an 'l' or is a very vowelly name.

RoseMartha · 30/01/2022 19:57

Eileen Frances
Eileen Matilda
Eileen Ruth

I always think just choosing a middle name is daft.
If you have a family name you'd like to honour use that if not why chose just for the sake of it
