For a girl? What's your thoughts?

I love it in one breath but is it faddy? Having doubts.

@dollybird

Helen George's DC are called Wren and Lark, so it could definitely be faddy. I do like it though.
I think Lark is better than Wren. It has the virtue of being unusual and a bit quirky. Wren is much more common, and whilst it may have had a quirky original feel about it once - perhaps as Lark still has - it’s lost that feel as its popularity has grown.

I have a Wren and in the two years since she was born every single person has commented on how lovely her name is.

I loved it as soon I heard it and I cannot imagine her being anything else.

SeedsSeedsSeeds · 30/01/2022 21:13

I just hear it as Ren and it sounds very blunt and male. Really don't understand where people hear the beauty in it. But if you like it go for it, tha majority of posters here seem to, so maybe it is me missing something.

FayCarew · 30/01/2022 19:09

Awful

I love it. I know a Wren, and she's so pretty and dainty.

ashitghost · 30/01/2022 17:46

It’s tipped into faddy.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 30/01/2022 17:27

it's the ultimate faddy name

Outlyingtrout · 30/01/2022 16:04

I don’t think it’s faddy. It’s been a well known (albeit not commonly used) name for my entire life at least. I can think of characters in TV shows from my childhood called Wren.

I love it as a girl’s name but I know that lots of people will think it’s a name that suggests a small/petite person and my DC certainly don’t fit that bill. We’re a tall and well-built family. I wouldn’t have wanted to lumber my DD with a lifetime of rude comments from people with no filter.

lemondrop21 · 30/01/2022 15:58

My 9 month old DD is Wren 😌
She's a petite with beautiful dark brown curly hair and the biggest blue eyes. It suits her perfectly and I love it so much.
We always got lots of lovely comments on it

PossiblyDreaming · 30/01/2022 15:54

I think it’s an absolutely beautiful name and was determined my daughter would be called Wren. Ex dh kept pointing out though that as he’s 6’2” and I’m 5’11” and neither of us were exactly daintily built it was quite likely that our daughter would follow in our footsteps of being built like a brick shithouse and that Wren might not be a particularly suitable name. Willow was dismissed for the same reason. Dc2 turned out to be a boy in the end, despite what the sonography thought at the scam so it was all out the window anyway!

Cheesechips · 30/01/2022 15:52

Reminds of a kitchen. Trendy, silly and will not stand the test of time! Poor child will be stuck with it for life.

FigitBit · 30/01/2022 15:50

You could put Lauren on the birth certificate but use Wren day to day.

That gives your daughter options at least.

SemperIdem · 30/01/2022 15:46

I like it but it’s one of those names that seems to require the owner to be dainty, like Grace.

YellowDots · 30/01/2022 14:56

Not sure about it. Cant understand why it's popular when Karen isn't. I had a friend Karen who went by the shortening of Wren.

I also know a Karen/Wren.

It's just a bit weak for me. Limp.

Catnipdelight · 30/01/2022 14:54

I think it's overdone and too trendy

propertealady · 30/01/2022 14:49

Only Wren I've met was a boy. I do like it for a girl but couldn't use it as it reminds me of Ren and Stimpy...

Tulips21 · 30/01/2022 14:39

@DramaAlpaca

Not for me, sorry. It's a very cute small bird, not a name for a child. I'm not sure it's faddy exactly, but I do think it's a little silly.
Agree But if you like it who cares
Snowiscold · 30/01/2022 14:37

I don’t like it. It’s faddy and a bit naff.

NothingTraLaLa · 30/01/2022 14:12

I don’t like it. To me it implies that girls should be fragile, delicate, tiny wee things. I’d much rather a stronger sounding name.

Mo1911 · 30/01/2022 14:08

I know a baby called Wren and I have to say I'm not keen when I hear it in use day in day out. That said I'm sure she'll be gorgeous whatever name you choose. 💞

toastofthetown · 30/01/2022 14:03

It’s fine. Very of the moment but not a dreadful name.

ISmellBurnings · 30/01/2022 13:47

I hate it, can’t understand why it’s so popular. I don’t like Robin either.

SeanChailleach · 30/01/2022 11:10

It sounds like a classic to me. I prefer it to Renée. I think it will just become widely used.

Pleaseuniverseplease · 30/01/2022 10:41

Faddy
