Camilla or Cosima?

I love both so much, but just can’t decide!

Nicknames Mila or Cosy.

My only concern is Cosima is a bit less known so may have pronunciation issues.

I like both which isn't that helpful (and also love similar "posh" Latin influenced "C" girls names like Claudia, Cordelia, Cressida, Celia and Cecilia!).

However I do think Camilla just feels that touch more classic somehow, so would be my pick of the two. I also do use the word "Cozzi" to describe a swimming costume too - could be a Midlands thing?

Hellodaahling · 29/01/2022 19:45

Nigella’s daughter is cosima! But nicknamed Mimi which is cute. I don’t think these names are overdone personally as not very popular as a whole.

So tricky I love both.

Hmmm coss-ima doesn’t seem to flow for me… and I do think it would annoy me if I’d have to keep repeating myself because the name is more “unknown”. My older daughter has a name that I have to repeat often and it is rather bothersome

Neither. Camille is lovely though.

Lightningrain · 29/01/2022 18:43

I know an Italian Cosima and it’s pronounced Coh-see-mah. I really like it unless there’s a different English pronunciation.

I’m not keen on Camilla as it just makes me think Parker-Bowles.

MissBattleaxe · 29/01/2022 18:35

Oh yes you're right Mimi. Sorry! Oops.

FooKingDong · 29/01/2022 18:27

@MissBattleaxe

Nigellas daughter is called Cosima and I think her nickname is Coco
I thought she was Mimi?

Anyway, they are both nice names, and not remotely 'out there'.

StrawberryFever · 29/01/2022 18:24

Strongly dislike Camilla.

I like Cosima, though as others have said, by default I wouldn't pronounce it the way you've put (and don't really like the -eema pronunciation personally) for me it would be more Coss-ima (rhyming with Boss and the -ima from Fatima)

HacerSonarSusPasos · 29/01/2022 18:23

Camellia instead of Camilla

ElectraBlue · 29/01/2022 18:17

I am sorry but these names have been done to death...

It just screams middle-class bore.

DramaAlpaca · 29/01/2022 17:59

I think Cosima is usually pronounced COZ-imma, not COZ-eema. Diminutives I've heard of are Mimi and Coco.

I like both Cosima and Camilla, so I'm not much help.

@Blubells

If someone pronounces zimmer as zimmah GrinShock
what?
Hellodaahling · 29/01/2022 17:54

Thank you for all the comments. It seems that Camilla is more of a crowd pleaser, though I know sometimes it can also be pronounced as cam-meel-la. Camilla PB connection doesn’t bother me. Cosima may be a bit too out there…though I do adore it

Blubells · 29/01/2022 17:52

Cosima is beautiful

Blubells · 29/01/2022 17:52

If someone pronounces zimmer as zimmah GrinShock

BiscuitLover3678 · 29/01/2022 17:45

Cosima makes me think of cozzy as in ‘swimming cozzy’ but I like that it’s different. I prefer the sound of Camilla.

DamsonJammyBastard · 29/01/2022 16:55

If someone pronounces zimmer as zimmah I can see where they're coming from. I wouldn't pronounce the name as co-zee-ma, more like coz-immah.

FelicityBob · 29/01/2022 16:53

Just call her Mila

SeanChailleach · 29/01/2022 16:52

They're both gorgeous. Cosima makes me think of Cosmos which would be okay as a nn. Camilla would also get Cami.

Blubells · 29/01/2022 16:51

I would pronounce Cosima as Cosz-eema

So would most people.

I've never heard it as Co Zimmer ConfusedHmm

Hellodaahling · 29/01/2022 16:48

I would pronounce Cosima as Cosz-eema

A mixture of s and z sound

Yes I would like the mee-la pronunciation for Mila

DamsonJammyBastard · 29/01/2022 16:46

I think Nigella's daughter is known as Mimi.

I prefer Cosima of the two as Camilla is too Parker Bowles for me.

TitoMojito · 29/01/2022 16:44

@Ceramide

I prefer Camilla.

Cosima is to much like a Zimmer frame. Cosima = Co Zimmer.

The only Cosima I know of is pronounced "Co-seema"
FelicityBob · 29/01/2022 16:43

Cosima reminds me of swimming cossie
Not keen on Camilla. Do you mean Mila pronouncer milla or meela? Because I wouldn’t shorten camilla to “meela”

StopForAMinute · 29/01/2022 16:41

I prefer Camilla. Very pretty name.

Fivebeanchilli · 29/01/2022 16:40

I love Camilla. It was on my list but I'd have used the nn Callie or Calla.
I'm not keen on Cosima.
