Elodie for a girl?

mayneman · 28/01/2022 08:36

Wife and I having our first. It's a girl Grin

We both have slightly unusual names (hers is only her, and mine is not rare but uncommon)

Struggling to come up with a good name but we both want something not so common. So far we like

April
Lana
Lili
And Elodie

April is rejected as family name is Mayne
Lana - nice but we kind of went off it
Lili - we really like but there are apparently 1000 lilis now

We also have a problem in that she will be half Asian and we kinda want to avoid stereotypical Asian-in-the-west names so Lili and April would fall into that.

So we're quite keen on Elodie right now.

Any thoughts?

Everyone I've told it to so far has said 'melody?'

I like Elodie, lovely name.

If you like French names, I know an Eliane too (pronounced a bit like Ellie-Anne) which I think is a beautiful name (although it does sound lovelier with a French accent).

Elodie is nice. I'm biased because I have one but I'd pick Lana on your list. My husband wanted Lara which is also pretty.

Fallagain · 31/01/2022 06:25

I know of a few. I wouldn’t say it was unusual.

Chuechebache · 31/01/2022 06:13

Its the kind of name you hear parents calling their child in WaitroseHmm

garlictwist · 31/01/2022 06:06

I dislike it, sorry.

PinkSyCo · 31/01/2022 03:51

Elodie was on my shortlist when my DD was expecting my first grandchild, as if she’d let me chose lol, she didn’t and she had a boy anyway ( wouldn’t let me chose his name either haha), but anyway yes I think Elodie is a really lovely name.

Thanks for all the replies! Much appreciated

Elodie is a lovely name and was only number 99 most popular for 2021.

mondler · 28/01/2022 23:06

I know a 3year old Elodie and I think it's a beautiful name.

PoleFairy · 28/01/2022 19:15

I like Elodie. My friend is pregnant atm and its top of her name list but DH did put me off when he keeps saying Elderly! Hes dyslexic and gets sounds muddle up a lot. I do like it though but Lana is my favourite from your list. Lana Mayne sounds like a film star.

Other options maybe that give me similar vibes:
Eloise
Isla
Eilidh (ay-lee)
Amelie
Skye

You say you would like unusual names. I have only ever met 1 girl with each of the following names.
Blaise
Avalon
Anais

SilverOtter · 28/01/2022 19:11

Elodie is a very pretty name❤️

Hummingbirdcake · 28/01/2022 19:09

Elodie is lovely. I know a little one and an adult one and it suits both.

Onlyrainbows · 28/01/2022 19:06

Love it! It's our chosen name for the girl we'll never have :)

WhyOhWine · 28/01/2022 19:00

I really like Elodie, but would worry that (at least once she hits school) she could end up as 1 of 1000 Ellies!

Although in fact i know 2, one who generally goes by her full name or sometimes Lo, and the other (as a child at least) is pretty much always Lolo (not a planned nickname!).

NotsoNeurotypical · 28/01/2022 18:51

Elodie is a lovely name, I would go for it

urghrtypically · 28/01/2022 18:47

I know two children called Elodie, never mistaken for Melody.

beechie12 · 28/01/2022 18:46

I love it. we couldn't use it as our surname is three syllables and would rhyme

Catsstillrock · 28/01/2022 18:45

Élodie is a French name but has jumped the shark to standard usage (at least where we are in the south east). It’s pretty popular.

Personally I love it!

WhoppingBigBackside · 28/01/2022 18:42

I'm not keen on it. There are lots of names starting with El and it's a bit nothingy

How about Taylor?

Facewipes · 28/01/2022 18:28

There’s a few where I stay, I personally dislike it for sounding overly fussy/frilly (but i of course always say oh what a lovely name to the parents when I hear it!). I do like Lana but it sounds a little dated to me, what about Alana?

DillDanding · 28/01/2022 18:21

I love it. I know a few though so my reservation would be it’s the new Sophie/Amelia…

Nomorefuckstogive · 28/01/2022 18:19

Élodie sounds lovely with your surname. Beautiful name. I really dislike Lana and Lili, I’m afraid.

Adatwistscientist · 28/01/2022 18:18

Love it. If my son has been my second girl he'd have been Elodie.

onesweetlife · 28/01/2022 18:16

I like it although I've met a few recently.

Rollonspring1111 · 28/01/2022 18:14

@FlamingoDust

Elodie is lovely! I always like the sound of Lana but in being 'anal' in reverse puts me off
See that would never have occurred to me.

I love Elodie btw.
