Got down to two names with both of us with a preference for a different one but we like both.

What one do you prefer?

Una, or you could spell it Oona.

Mila is a really insipid name

Una has a lot of pizzazz.

Luredbyapomegranate · 24/01/2022 19:16

Oona - I love it - but spelt like that if possible.

Mia is just so blah, there are 17 billion of them, and there are about 3 ways of saying it. (whereas Una said as Yew-na was just a weird 20th century UK pronunciation that has died out - but anyway spelling it Oona/gh solves that)

MrsMoastyToasty · 24/01/2022 17:44

How about the name Minna ?

8stone13 · 24/01/2022 17:42

I thought I was having an extreme case of deja vu when I saw this as I was certain I'd commented on the exact same thread a couple of weeks ago! But I hadn't imagined it, here it is:

Una all the way for me 🙂

resm · 24/01/2022 11:39

Una, though Mia is nice too.

OrangeAndYellowAndBlue · 24/01/2022 11:32

Una

Incidentally, is it a coincidence that you've narrowed it down to two names that happen to coincide with the number "one" in different languages? (una in Latin and mia in Ancient Greek.)

Binthescales · 24/01/2022 10:54

Personally I like Mia.

It feels popular without being popular.

However, I have a personal bias against the name Una. When we were little that was our local librarian's name and she was HORRIBLE! In itself it's gorgeous.

Really dislike Una and hate the two ways of saying it.

Mia is ok but not to my taste and too popular

babyturtle19 · 23/01/2022 23:50

Mia Smile

DontTellThemYourNamePike · 23/01/2022 23:41

@EishetChayil

They're both such nothingy names.
What an unnecessarily rude comment. The OP asked which name people preferred, not to have her choices slated.
Fl0w3ry · 23/01/2022 23:11

Mia

EishetChayil · 23/01/2022 23:08

They're both such nothingy names.

Lockdownbear · 23/01/2022 23:07

Una, it's a little different to Maya, Mya, Mia and various combinations of it.

Another couple to consider are Fraya and Flora

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 23/01/2022 23:05

I think I prefer Mia but your thread reminded me of this fab portrait of Una Vincenzo, Lady Troubridge

Veryverycalmnow · 23/01/2022 23:01

I like Una, but Mia is pretty too, if a little like Miaow!!

RedCandyApple · 23/01/2022 22:59

Mia

BellesBells · 23/01/2022 22:47

Una (pronounced oo-na)

DontTellThemYourNamePike · 23/01/2022 22:42

This was asked before a couple of weeks ago. I said Una. From Irish legend. She was Finn MacCool's very smart wife. Lovely, lovely name. I've known a few Una's.

ImSoMagical · 23/01/2022 22:38

Mia to me is Missing In Action. And it can be pronounced Mee - ya or My - a I love Oona. (BTW my daughter is Maya - pronounced My - A)

Liliahgreen7 · 23/01/2022 22:35

Mee-a
Una would be pronounced oo-na
