@QueenAstrid

As an adult I would hate to be called Primrose
I would love to be called Primrose!
Just10moreminutesplease · 20/01/2022 15:03

I like it and it makes me imagine a feisty little girl who definitely isn’t prim and proper… no idea why though!

Workinghardeveryday · 20/01/2022 15:02

Beautiful name! I really love it

Emelene · 20/01/2022 14:59

I know a little Primrose. I haven’t come across the name in a real person before so I found it unusual but now I think it is very pretty.

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/01/2022 14:56

@Buddhabowl

I think we should question why flowery names are considered too 'girly' and 'twee' and why that should be seen as a bad thing. What is wrong with femininity? You don't hear someone saying 'don't call him Alex that's far too masculine'
I know a kid called Thor. That analogous for me. He's shy and sweet.

Something like Willow, beautiful but also strong and flexible. A child can be who they are.

hivemindneeded · 20/01/2022 14:47

I don't like it. I dont mind Lily and Rose and big flower names but primrose and violet are so twee, like saying to your daughter stay small and fey and unobtrusive all your life, theres a good girl. Especially if the nn is Prim!

MysticCT · 20/01/2022 14:42

I've got a cousin called Primrose, she's in her sixties. She doesn't like it and uses Rosie instead.

ofwarren · 20/01/2022 14:31

I really love it
Reminds me of The Darling Buds of May which I love too.
Beautiful name.

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/01/2022 14:30

The problem for me is there is no choice. If you end up with a rugby playing, beer drinking, swearing teenager her choices are:

Primrose
Rosie
Prim
Posy

Seriously? She'll end up changing her name. It screams, 'I want a girly girl'. And that leaves whomever you end up getting as a child in a corner. Much better to choose a name which has diminutives and nicknames which are a wider choice.

Toottooot · 20/01/2022 14:30

Very common now if that bothers you.

SynchOrSwim · 20/01/2022 14:28

I think of 'prim and proper' too. Sounds like the parents have quite conservative ideas of how a young lady should act to me. Ick.

Marcipex · 20/01/2022 14:25

I like it.
I met one recently, she’s about eight and she has long pale yellow hair.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 20/01/2022 13:46

Some flower names are gorgeous but Primrose just sounds sickly sweet to me. A name for a cartoon character, or maybe a hamster. I'd most definitely choose to shorten it and go by Rose.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 20/01/2022 13:43

@SlyAvocado

Harold Shipman’s wife was called Primrose.
I have no idea why it has ticked me so much that this was someone’s first response to the name!

It’s fine, a friend has one, it doesn’t particularly suit her. I like Prim and don’t immediately make the link with prim and proper

Graceyland · 20/01/2022 13:40

I’m surprised that this name is so polarizing! Again I’m not a big fan of flower names in general but I think Primrose is really pretty. Very feminine sounding if that’s what you’re looking for.

RosieRoww · 20/01/2022 13:34

I like it.

Pegasussnail · 20/01/2022 13:33

Reminds me of the Darling Buds of May.
It's pretty

UserBot999 · 20/01/2022 13:32

Awful. Prim is terrible

Buddhabowl · 20/01/2022 13:31

I love it but not sure I'd have the guts to use it. I like the nickname Prim or Posy.
Good to see it's rising in popularity, possibly makes it more useable!

TheGratefulBread · 19/01/2022 10:55

I think it's fine as a middle name, to balance out a popular first name, but I'm not keen as a first name.

DramaAlpaca · 19/01/2022 10:44

It's horrible.

Sorry, but you did ask.

PattyPan · 19/01/2022 10:34

Sounds like a cartoon cow. And Prim is awful.

onedayoranother · 19/01/2022 10:32

I like it but... I fear it brings up an image of a quiet compliant child.
