I have a Lydia she's beautiful and I adore her name.

AnnaSW1 · 19/01/2022 09:04

I like it, it's been on my list before but not the top choice. It's a good name.

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 19/01/2022 08:44

I went to school wothba girl called Lydia never occurred to us it rhymes with chlamydia! We used to call her Lid or Lids but she didn't mind that .
Go for it!

IamMaz · 19/01/2022 08:40

I love it.
I remember 'Love for Lydia' in the late 1970's with Mel Martin. Happy days...

degsydoodoos · 19/01/2022 08:37

Beautiful name, it was one that I liked when I was pregnant as we found it in DH's family tree, however I didn't think it went with our surname so we didn't keep it on our list. I do love it though, so pretty.

Blue4YOU · 19/01/2022 08:35

I have a 4 year old Lydia. I love the name! (On an aside I wish I’d called her Lydia Louise rather than the middle names I did give her).

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/01/2022 08:04

Nice. Becoming quite popular at the moment.

TedsaidFred · 19/01/2022 07:37

I really like the name Lydia, it's on my list, I think it's simple, classic, not overused, not hard to spell although am sure people will find a way to misspell it, like everything. However, I don't like Lyd or Lydie for shortenings so that puts me off but you are happy with Lydie so then I can't see any downsides. I think the chlamydia thing will be shortlived and associated only with the really shitty kids or colleagues as pp mentioned, I don't think over the lifespan of a human this should be a reason to not use a name.

LaurensILikeYouALot · 19/01/2022 06:52

I know a newborn Lydia and a few who are in their 30s. It's growing on me.

Dubgirl1212 · 19/01/2022 06:48

Worked with a girl called Lydia and she was called Chlamydia behind her back by some of our not so nice colleagues.

Flutterflybutterby · 19/01/2022 05:32

Mia rhymes with gonorrhea but that doesn't seem to have harmed the bazillions of Mias running around!

Lydia is lovely.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 19/01/2022 01:47

Beautiful and reasonably underused classic imo with Biblical and literary links. Personally prefer similar Julia and Claudia but Lydia is lovely too.

hellywelly3 · 18/01/2022 23:22

I adore the name and wanted it for my DC but DH really didn’t like it

RedCandyApple · 18/01/2022 23:11

No

Fl0w3ry · 18/01/2022 23:10

I know a little Lydia. They have it hyphenated as Lydia-Mae which I think is nice together.

massiveblob · 18/01/2022 23:05

Love it

KohlaParasaurus · 18/01/2022 22:59

I love Lydia, both the way it sounds and the shape the word makes when written. I considered it for one of my children in the early 1990s, but a couple of my friends (who didn't know one another - a work colleague and someone I'd been at school with) picked it first. And I ended up having a boy.

LiG123 · 18/01/2022 22:52

My sister is called Lydia. Lovely name especially being so rare.

blyn72 · 18/01/2022 22:48

Lydia is a lovely name.

GreyGoose1980 · 18/01/2022 22:48

Thanks all for your honest replies. I hadn’t thought about the fact it rhymed with Clamydia, I’m not sure if this bothers me that much as I guess all names can rhyme with something negative if you look hard enough. I like Lydie as a nn as agree Lid isn’t as nice. Would be great to hear from anyone called Lydia whether you like your name or not? I have a fairly popular (think Claire / Emma etc in the 1980s) name so wanted something a bit less popular for dd.

Lydia sounds like a baddie to me but I’m not sure why!

Roseandgeranium · 18/01/2022 22:45

Love it.

frasersmummy · 18/01/2022 22:45

So long as you are not planning a move to the west of Scotland its lovely

Up here she would get called lydia kettle (say it in a Glasgow accent if you don't understand)

Atypicaldancer · 18/01/2022 22:45

I have one. She’s never been called clamydia Hmm and I still love her name 15 years on. So does she! It seems to be an easy name to live with. The pride and prejudice Lydia didn’t put me off - my Lydia thinks she’s very silly!

MumsMeaningfulMayhem · 18/01/2022 22:44

Beautiful name 😍
