Husband's awful name suggestions!

annaj83 · 18/01/2022 13:50

My husband's absolutely set on several absolutely awful names! I'm trying to convince him otherwise, but MIL and even some of my family are on his side. Don't know gender.
Please tell me I'm not going crazy, these names are awful
Indy
Jolene
Cosmo
Estella
Trisha
Kiana
Aliesha
Chastity

I honestly fear a child named any of those would be absolutely bullied. Any advice?

What about Alicia? I think that's nice and is a version of one of his?

MarshaBradyo · 18/01/2022 20:02

Estella and Cosmo are ok

I know both and not bullied

dopenguinsdance · 18/01/2022 20:00

Don't go with Estella. Very "princessy' and it's bound to get shortened as it's such a mouthful. On the other hand, your names are classic and simple and much more relatable (I assume you're in the UK). Some of your girls names are due a come back and they don't sound consciously old lady twee either.

GemmaRuby · 18/01/2022 19:52

Good update OP, that’s a good place to start. Hope you find one you both love.

WeasilyPleased · 18/01/2022 19:52

Mine was exactly the same. Pray for a midwife with a name you both love. Worked for us!

DemBonesDemBones · 18/01/2022 19:04

I love Estella!

Straysocks · 18/01/2022 18:33

You're lucky, I had to deal with Roger & Kevin.

annaj83 · 18/01/2022 18:26

For anyone interested, have had a talk with DH. Chastity absolutely off the cards, and have explained why.
We have agreed not to involve MIL or my brother (who was beginning to poke his nose in a bit) and the baby has to have a name we agree on.
Not any further with a name we both like, but we've agreed to keep looking.
Progress!

I know a 10yo Kiana, one of the most lovely girls I know. She really suits her name. I know a few Aliesha’s, all older 20/30s and not in the UK. Don’t mind the name.

All the others 😬

WhoppingBigBackside · 18/01/2022 18:01

Nell, Jane, May, Diana for a girl and Jack, Charlie, Will for a boy

I don't like May and Will is bit nothingy
The others are great

TidyDancer · 18/01/2022 17:34

Estella is a beautiful name. The rest of them not so much. Your girls names are no better though tbf!

aprilanne · 18/01/2022 17:32

Sorry but yours are just as bad jane and diana come on .a cruise singer and a ex princess killed in a car crash .Nell .may and estella the best of a bad bunch

Snowiscold · 18/01/2022 17:28

Cosmo must surely be a boy’s name.
Estella is the major character in Great Expectations, beautiful but very damaged.

LesLavandes · 18/01/2022 17:27

Estella is fine. Nope to the others

GemmaRuby · 18/01/2022 17:26

You should agree that neither of you will discuss names with your families. The two of you should decide together and then announce it after the birth.
But yes those names are all awful.

PuppyMonkey · 18/01/2022 17:25

And Cosmo the slightly terrible all you can eat restaurant chain.Grin

MintyGreenDream · 18/01/2022 17:23

Estella makes me think of Estrella lager

WhoppingBigBackside · 18/01/2022 17:23

Cosmo and Estella are both really nice

BrassyLocks · 18/01/2022 17:22

I'm surprised at so may people liking Cosmo. Makes me think Cosmopolitan magazine. Cosimo would be better.

Chastity is fine for a 17th century Puritan maid.

Iamanicepersonreally · 18/01/2022 17:21

I can't believe that people are saying that Cosmo is OK. It's utterly dreadful. Who do you know who could carry that name well?

PuppyMonkey · 18/01/2022 17:17

I don’t really like either his OR your names OP, but I think he slightly wins in the the terrible stakes with Trisha. Go on, you’ve got to do it.Grin

Skeumorph · 18/01/2022 17:15

Tell him he isn't going to be in the delivery room unless the name is sorted in advance and it will not be a. anything to do with anyone who isn't you or him, any names suggested or mentioned by any family member will automatically be off the list and b. it will be a name you love. Or you will name the baby yourself.

DisforDarkChocolate · 18/01/2022 17:13

Well I really like Cosmo.

The rest, let's just say not as much and leave it at that.

Keep reminding him that the baby is going to be a real person soon not just a bump.

MIL needs to keep her nose out, remind her she's had her turn at naming children then forget to include her next time you make tea. She will see her card has been marked.

GrandRapids · 18/01/2022 17:13

They're all hideous

FeedMeSantiago · 18/01/2022 17:12

Tell your DH that from now on all name discussions are strictly between the two of you, not complicated by the opinions of anyone else in the family.

Chastity is hideous, the connotations are awful.

Jolene is too associated with the song, which is now stuck in my head! She'd have a lifetime of people singing it at her.

Alicia (ah-liss-ee-ah) is a nice alternative to Aliesha? I think Cosima is a good suggestion too.

I would suggest going through a list of the top 1000 names each (you can get them from the ONS) and each of you make a list from there and then compare and see if you have anything in common?
