Sarah

Any thoughts on this name? I've always loved it but wondered whether people thought it seemed very plain. I'm also aware it was popular when I was young so might seem a bit old hat.

I'm from a very long line of Sarahs (every generation for at least 250 years). It is my daughter's middle name (and my first). I found it dull as a child and longed for a name which could have lots of nicknames from it, but now I love it.

GreyGoose1980 · 22/01/2022 06:49

I like the sound of the name but it does remind me of the Sarah/Emma/Claire names the 80s - where there were three in each class. I do think it’s a pretty name that works well for both a child or adult though.

Heartofglass12345 · 20/01/2022 22:01

I like Sarah, there were lots in my year in school but I haven't heard of any young Sarah's.
My son has someone called Alison in his class and I think it's lovely

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 20/01/2022 10:18

Very plain and I don't get all the 'refreshing' comments as it's never gone away, I seem to know so many Sarahs of all ages. There's always a Sarah hanging around.

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 20/01/2022 02:47

@Tworingstorulethemall

It's my name and I love it, but she will hear 'does that have a H' all her life. Grin
And I get the H missed off ALL THE TIME even when it is in front of someone responding to a bloody email that I have sent them ......
Farrandau · 19/01/2022 23:41

Honestly — and my closest friend in the world is a Sarah (who says she was one of four in her class throughout primary, and lost count in her time at secondary) — I think you might as well call your child Generic Name.

iloveorange · 19/01/2022 23:35

I don't get why some people find it plain or dull, but then I like classic names that everyone knows how to spell and will not sound dated in a few years.

Clara/Claire is another name I love for that same reason. Also Catherine. You just can't go wrong with a name like that.

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/01/2022 23:18

Lovely

A classic

TheHairyDinosaur · 18/01/2022 18:20

I'm a 90's baby and a Sarah. There were I think about 4 or 5 Sarah's in my school.

I genuinely love my name. It's sorta worked at every stage of my life, and now as a professional woman, it looks great on a e-mail signature. No fuss, simple and classic.

Always able to get a keyring with my name on it too 🤣

Tworingstorulethemall · 18/01/2022 18:16

Pinkandpink · 18/01/2022 18:02

My gran was a Sarah, she passed away just before I had my daughter. So it felt right to call her Sarah, she’s 8 now. I think out of a primary school of 400 pupils, there is only my daughter and another girl called Sarah.

becca3210 · 18/01/2022 17:50

Lovely 🥰

Justleaveitblankthen · 18/01/2022 17:39

Never personally known anyone with that name funnily enough.
Had an acquaintance called 'Sara', but she wasn't overly nice so it may have put me off 🤔

loveablequalities · 18/01/2022 16:53

I like it. One of my best friends is Sarah 😁

I know a Sarah who goes by Sadie which I also love and another who goes by Rae which I'm less keen on but it shows there are nickname options too.

soundsgreektome · 18/01/2022 16:48

I’m biased, it’s my name and I love it! I’m late 40’s.

Nosetickle · 18/01/2022 16:46

I seriously just looked at this name for the first time, really properly looked at it, and thought how beautiful it is. It took me a few seconds to click that it’s actually my name 😆 it really is such a pretty name and I never meet any little people with the name. It’s due a revival for sure.

Classica · 18/01/2022 12:28

Shocker, even biblical name aren't immune from sounding dated. Deborah, Ruth, Simon, Mark, nothing wrong with them but lots of people would associate them with the 1970s/80s.

LaChanticleer · 18/01/2022 12:01

I find it very 80s

Hilarious! Hmm you know it's a very old Jewish name? You'll find it in the Old Testament

Edenember · 18/01/2022 10:00

I inexplicably love it, my taste otherwise is generally a lot more unusual / clunky. I can understand why some would find it dated given it’s 80s popularity, but I think the biblical origin grounds it in provenance, and I’d find it refreshing used today.

Ceramide · 18/01/2022 08:15

It's a lovely name, classic and with a nice meaning

LoveTuesday · 18/01/2022 07:14

My Sarah was one of 2 in a school of 300 in the 90s. There are 3 in my current work place of approx 100 and their ages range from 25 to 60.
I don't think it's over used my any means.

Kokeshi123 · 18/01/2022 00:42

Pretty name but oh my goodness, "done to death" does not even do justice to the hordes of Sarahs in the 70s and 80s. It was so generic, you may as well have called your daughter "Girl" or "Daughter." It's certainly not that common now and I want to like it, but... Still, if you like it, go ahead--there's nothing objectively wrong with it.

hivemindneeded · 17/01/2022 21:33

@sadpapercourtesan

I find it very 80s, along with Claire, Emma, Rachel, Louise etc. I wouldn't use it, but I wouldn't raise an eyebrow if someone else did either - it's fine, just a bit meh.
I love all those Eighties names.

I think Sarah is beautiful.

MintyGreenDream · 17/01/2022 21:31

It's my name and I'm very meh about it

littlepetit · 17/01/2022 21:31

I quite like 80s/90s names on babies at the moment, a friends baby is called Jennifer which I think is very sweet and refreshing, also love all the other names mentioned.
