Thomas or Louis?

I can’t decide between the name Thomas or Louis (pronounced Louie) for DS2
I prefer Louis but i feel torn on which to choose! I have a couple of people I know who’s sons are called Louis. Also DS1 is called George and I’m worried about the royal siblings connection and will people think it’s weird?! I only like traditional names if anyone has any other suggestions?

I love both. Prefer Louis but I think it’s a bit much with a brother called George. So if I were you I would go Thomas

I like Thomas, but think Louis is more pretentious than classic.

My go to for classic boys names is the Thomas the tank engine crew - James, Edward, Gordon, Henry, Toby.. less so Percy !

I love Thomas!
I glanced at the post title and briefly read it as Thelma or Louise ( showing my age here!)

Thanks @toastofthetown that's interesting!

@MrsTerryPratchett

What would you think about a William and Harry? Or a Charles, Andrew and Edward? I'd assume weird Royalist. And I think that's especially true of Louis. Realistically, I'll bet it was very rare a few years ago and shooting up the rankings now. Although I haven't checked.

There are loads of traditional names which aren't currently used by Royals.

Interestingly that's not really the case. Louis did have an upswing in popularity after the prince was born, but declined slightly last year. Even still its usage was considerably higher around the turn of the millennium than the last five years.

I much prefer Louis but wouldn’t choose it if my other son was called George.
How about Benedict, Arthur, Alexander, Zachary, Gregory, Henry, Frederick, Timothy

I prefer Louis but considering your ds1 is George, then I think you should go with Thomas. If you go with Louis the royal connection will exist forever. It would be like calling them William and Harry...it would still raise an eyebrow today.

I would avoid Louis because of the royals. I think it's a great name though - my son is best friends with one so I'm biased.

Personally I wouldn't want brothers called George and Louis. I wouldn't say it's weird but I think most would notice the connection. I might wonder if you are a bit of royalist / Kate Middleton suck-up type.

Not sure I can offer suggestions on names, as if you want traditional names with established use then I'm sure you know then all anyway. No need to remind you that the names Henry and Peter exist! Unless you are wanting to go a bit more offbeat (Ambrose, Benedict, Edmund etc.)

Thomas is my fave boy's name so def that.
And yes, people would think you a wannabe Kate.

Ceramide · 15/01/2022 16:30

I prefer Thomas
