Thomas or Louis?

I can’t decide between the name Thomas or Louis (pronounced Louie) for DS2
I prefer Louis but i feel torn on which to choose! I have a couple of people I know who’s sons are called Louis. Also DS1 is called George and I’m worried about the royal siblings connection and will people think it’s weird?! I only like traditional names if anyone has any other suggestions?

Thomas.

William
Freddie
Matthew

Mammyloveswine · 16/01/2022 22:11

How about Matthew? Or James? Arthur?

I love the name Daniel!

BunnyRuddington · 16/01/2022 18:16

I have a bit of a soft spot for Thomas after going through High School with an absolutely lovely friend.

mummytotwoboys0600 · 16/01/2022 17:14

I love Louis, but I'm biased as I have a 13 month old baby boy called Louis 🥰

LP83 · 16/01/2022 16:14

I prefer Louis but would go for Thomas with George.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 16/01/2022 16:10

George and Thomas work really well together - both very classic names that have never left the top 100. While Louis is a kind of traditional name here too, it's one much more subject to the whims of fashion. Plus the Louis/Louie/Lewis thing will be more of a hassle in most places in the UK I think, where as a Thomas or George still have an obvious prominent spelling and pronunciation (so less likely to be an issue - although in Wales, you may sometimes get Tomos).

If it helps, I'd guess a George's brother would be named something like Charles, Edward, Thomas, Michael, David, William, James, Henry, Joseph, John, Robert etc - very classic/traditional, shortish and nearly always popular/well used in the UK historically.

I like Thomas but I'm biased as that's my eldest son middle name and my fathers name

TheDuchessOfMN · 16/01/2022 11:36

If you prefer Louis, call him Louis.

Iamtheweedonkey · 16/01/2022 11:35

I love the name Thomas, very biased though as it's my Ds name, his middle name is also your first child's name. It ages well, he's a teen now and prefers Tom.

FayCarew · 16/01/2022 11:31

Thomas

JohnStonesMissus · 16/01/2022 10:38

Yes people would just hear the Kate connection with sons named George and Louis, you'll be explaining forever more that you actually like the names and you're not copying! Thomas is a better bet and Louis as a middle name?

TenThousandSpoons · 16/01/2022 10:35

Another vote for Thomas.
George and Tom - lovely.
George and Louis - oh do you love the royals?
Also Louis will get pronounced Lewis.

resm · 16/01/2022 10:29

We’ve just had had a newborn and called him Thomas, other contenders on our shortlist were James and Daniel. I love Louis as well, but couldn’t convince husband!

BeKindBeYou · 16/01/2022 07:10

I’d go for Thomas.

George & Thomas go really well together.

pilates · 15/01/2022 20:30

Thomas

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 15/01/2022 20:29

Louis Thomas (as a middle name) sounds lovely.

wingsofabird · 15/01/2022 20:24

Love both!!! Sorry not any help

Jitters22 · 15/01/2022 19:54

I love both names, so not much help but couldn't you call him both?

Thomas Louis or Louis Thomas?

Kitkat151 · 15/01/2022 19:51

Thomas
Definately not Louis

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/01/2022 19:34

Daniel
Miles
Robert
Philip

Might be other options

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/01/2022 19:33

I wouldn’t worry about the princes, they are popular names (although if you have a girl next Charlotte may be going too far Grin)

I prefer Thomas as it’s more of a classic (in the UK) but if I was torn I’d go for whichever is the less popular right now.

rambleonplease · 15/01/2022 18:15

I like both Thomas and Louis. But if you are worried about the royal connection, then avoid Louis.

Other traditional boys names:
James
Matthew
Benjamin
William but again very royal.
Edward. Ditto above!

TheWomandestroyed · 15/01/2022 17:19

Louis hands down.

RavenclawsRoar · 15/01/2022 17:08

I prefer Louis.

dafey · 15/01/2022 17:07

Louis is my favourite boys name but I'm not sure I would have it with George
