Final shortlist for girls names - what are your thoughts?

I promise this is my last post. I think we have a final shortlist (although DH isn’t sure about a couple of them). We don’t mind about popularity so that isn’t an issue for us. With that in mind, what are your thoughts on the names below?

All are nice (except Mable to me sounds like an elderly person), but Allegra is particularly lovely.

I know lots of Olivia and Isabellas.

Verity favourite, Olivia 2nd , not keen on Allegra or Lilah...is it pronounced lie laa or Lee la either way not keen...
Others ok and nice enough...

@ReadySteadyTwins I do like Honor. I considered it early doors. Not sure what held me back.

I like Isabella or Grace. Don't mind Lila or Olivia and not keen on the rest.

@DebbieHarrysCheekbones we don’t have a great surname tbh. It’s more ‘Stott’ than ‘Darling’.

Isabella - Lovely. Overused.
Grace - Awful. Thuddy. Every uninspired girls middle name.
Verity - Lovely.
Lilah (or Lila) - Overused.
Ophelia - Try hard and as overused as Ottilie.
Mabel - Dog's name.
Allegra - Sounds like an old car.
Olivia - Lovely. Overused.

I'd go Verity.

What about Honor?

Isabella - nice, but I prefer Isobel
Grace - classy but very over used
Verity - ok, it doesn't come across as a 'warm and friendly' name to me
Lilah (or Lila) - lovely. Especially Lila
Ophelia - too 'pretty'
Mabel - don't like, possibly because it's my SM's name!
Allegra - same as Verity
Olivia - same as Grace.

Some of these need a very certain kind of surname too

Eg Ophelia Stott Isn’t the same as Ophelia Darling IYSWIM

So what is the flow with surname?

Not keen on any of those names personally but if I had to pick on It would be Allegra

@elfran DH only really likes Grace and Olivia atm. If I end up loving a name though I think he will come round to it. He thinks he came up with our son’s name but it was definitely a work in progress when I first suggested it Wink

I love Mabel, it's the only on your list I'd personally consider (though the others are perfectly lovely). I'm guessing if your DH prefers Grace etc, Mabel may be one he's not convinced by?

I love Allegra and Verity.

Lilah is a great spelling of a popular name. It's a lovely name.

Ophelia has too sad connotations and feels a bit try hard to me.

Isabella is OK. So is Grace. Mabel is quite cute. Olivia was the most popular name for girls for years last decade so may not be the most original choice, but if you love it, it's pretty and a classic.

I know an Allegra in her 30's, she hates her name and has gone by Ali since she was a teen!

None of those are my taste personally but I'd say that Olivia and Isabella are the nicest.

Isabella - I love Isabel but find Isabella overly frilly.
Grace - boring
Verity - reminds me of MIL
Lilah (or Lila) - nice enough
Ophelia - no. I would not like to introduce myself as Ophelia.
Mabel - old cat lady name. Really dislike this.
Allegra - too pretentious sounding. I would not like to introduce myself as Allegra.
Olivia - 70s vibe for me but it’s fine

Mabel makes me think of a Coronation St character scrubbing steps.

@IWillFartOnYourCake very fair point. I do agree, they just happen to be DH’s favourites and I do like them despite their popularity. Completely take your point though.

I like Allegra, my only concern is that a work colleague might think I have copied them as it’s their DD’s name.
