Jesse for a boy

Always liked this name. What do you think?
Any ideas which middle names sound good with it?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
IWillFartOnYourCake · 14/01/2022 19:50

So why defend the intelligence of homophobes?

You've made your point: Jesse is an unwise name to choose for a boy as very intelligent people of all ages in Scotland use it as a slur.

girlabouthome · 14/01/2022 19:48

Beautiful name

SirChenjins · 14/01/2022 19:47

I realise that you’re attempting to deflect the question, but can you point to the post/s which said they were proud of the term?

And no, I can assure I was not ‘offended’.

IWillFartOnYourCake · 14/01/2022 19:44

Well SirChenjin seemed offended at someone saying only those with an IQ below 60 would use 'you big jessie' as a slur. Defending the intelligence of homophobes seems a bit weird.

Blubells · 14/01/2022 19:41

Doesn't seem like something to be proud of, that homophobic slurs are used by Scots of all ages.

Who said they were 'proud' that 'big Jesse' was a term commonly used in Scotland Confused

SirChenjins · 14/01/2022 19:36

I don’t recall anyone saying that it was a phrase that anyone was proud of using. Perhaps you could point us to that post?

Think of it in the same way as calling your child other terms which are not particularly desirable - like Dick, or Chav, or Wally.

IWillFartOnYourCake · 14/01/2022 19:31

That's a shame. Doesn't seem like something to be proud of, that homophobic slurs are used by Scots of all ages.

TrashyPanda · 14/01/2022 18:04

@IWillFartOnYourCake

I like it. I think of Jesse James as well as surfer dude types. Does anyone under 60 use the phrase 'big jessie'?
Yes, loads of people in Scotland.

Regional differences aren’t age-dependant.

Deborahismyname · 14/01/2022 16:31

Love it! Very cool name.
Only ever known male Jesses. Jessicas tend to be Jess in my experience.

SirChenjins · 14/01/2022 16:21

Yep - and you might be surprised to know that those regional differences doesn't equate to an IQ of below 60.

Blubells · 14/01/2022 16:11

Does anyone under 60 use the phrase 'big jessie'?

Yes apparently so, especially in Scotland

I've never heard anyone under the age of 60, or with an IQ above 60 using it.

Jesse Frederick
Jesse Christopher
Jesse Nathaniel (my favourite!)
Jesse Sebastian
Jesse Alexander
Jesse Benjamin
Jesse Matthias

TrashyPanda · 13/01/2022 23:50

@SirChenjins

‘You big Jessie’ is still very much alive and well here in Scotland - it’s very definitely not a cool, edgy name for a boy. It might be different in other parts of the UK though - regional differences etc.
Agreed - it’s definitely not a name to use for a boy in Scotland.
BootySOS · 13/01/2022 22:51

Like it!

Luredbyapomegranate · 13/01/2022 22:45

Love it. Bit underused so good to get in quick before it becomes more popular
Jesse Nathan
Jesse Reuben
Jesse Jerome
But if you have family names you’d like to use I think that’s best for a middle name

PumpkinCrumble · 13/01/2022 22:23

I think Gilmore Girls! So I love it!

EishetChayil · 13/01/2022 22:19

Yer big jessie!

SirChenjins · 13/01/2022 22:14

Ned is a Scottish word meaning thug (non educated delinquent). Usually seen hanging about in groups drinking, shouting, swearing, fighting, that kind of thing. The sort you’d cross the street to avoid. You wouldn’t call your precious baby boy Ned up here.

RosettaPebble · 13/01/2022 20:39

I love Jesse but I also love Ned. Not sure what is wrong with either.

I know a 21 year old Jesse, never had an issue with his name.

LozMarieFielder · 13/01/2022 20:30

I love it, but wasn't expecting so many people on here to like it!

For middle names:
Jesse Arlo
Jesse Marcus
Jesse Lachlan
Jesse Vincent
Jesse Maxwell
Jesse Cameron

MinnieJackson · 13/01/2022 17:53

I love Jesse!

Cbeebiesrehab · 13/01/2022 17:44

I think we should probably encourage people not to use homophobic slurs rather than encourage people not to use lovely boys names.

Go for it OP, it’s a gorgeous name and my hypothetical third child’s name (although apparently that’s my style as I gave my DS a ‘girly’ name too🙄)

Derrymum123 · 13/01/2022 17:33

Absolutely beautiful name. I would 100% go for it. One of my all time favourite names that I love.
