How do you feel about the name Milo? After exhausting every baby name book out there this is the only name we agree on, but I'm still unsure. Help!

@JennyForeigner

Excellent Phantom Tollbooth vibes.
That is my first association with the name too. One of the best children's books ever so it's a yes from me.
SophieKat1982 · 11/01/2022 20:26

Like it but prefer Miles.

JennyForeigner · 11/01/2022 20:26

Please no!!!! I'm a pet sitter and by far and away the most common name for a male pet anything is Milo. Please spare the little one.

Thewolvesarerunningagain · 11/01/2022 20:16

Ah! That makes sense. Thank you both!

Winniemarysarah · 11/01/2022 14:22

@Thewolvesarerunningagain

What is a ‘wet’ name? Like Thatcher’s ‘Tory Wets’ or something else? Sorry not come across this before
‘Wet’ means kind of weak and poncy, eg Rupert, Edwin, Tarquin etc
oncemoreunto · 11/01/2022 12:53

I think 'wet' usually means slightly posh, pretentious male name with a hint of being effeminate maybe.
In the Brideshead revisited style if that makes sense.

( I have a slight weakness for such names)

@Joystir59

Hugo is another wet name
Hugo is posh though.

I love ‘wet’ names 😊

Winniemarysarah · 11/01/2022 10:42

@Heckythump1

It's a dogs name.... not a dogs name.... not a human name that is used on dogs like e.g. Poppy or Charlie.... but just a dogs name. Sorry.
That’s what I thought. A pp has compared it to phoebe/poppy/Sadie which is used for dogs. They’re all really popular human names though. For me calling a baby Milo would be like calling it rover or butch.
Joystir59 · 11/01/2022 10:31

Joystir59 · 11/01/2022 10:29

Milo and Arlo are great cool namee. Monty is nothing like them imo, and is very wet.

It's a fab name. My JRT suits it very well .

Blubells · 11/01/2022 10:27

Chocolate drink

irishfarmer · 11/01/2022 10:19

My cousin called his DS Milo, I think it's a nice name. Like PP I have lived in Australia where yes it is a drink, but you don't live there so I wouldn't let it put you off! Oz was the place to go for our generation, they are all going to Canada now so who knows where they will go if they even do when you DS is old enough!

And for what it's worth my dog have a very human name so for me they are interchangeable.

SamMil · 11/01/2022 09:56

I love it!

Our dog is called Milo but I think it is great for a person too!

rbe78 · 11/01/2022 09:47

It's a nice name, but having lived in Oz for a time I wouldn't use it - it would be like calling a kid Horlicks!

PPCD · 11/01/2022 09:46

It's a lovely name

BiscuitLover3678 · 11/01/2022 09:45

@Lovemusic33

I know a couple Milo’s, I’m not keen on the name as it reminds me of the tweenies, also sounds like a pet name, fine for a child but I can’t imagine meeting a adult male with that name and not thinking of the kids programme.
Does Milo Ventimiglia change things? Wink
Crapslattern · 11/01/2022 09:14

Very popular dog name round me! I like it though.

@ChildrenGrowingUpTooFast

Kiwi here and no one would use that name. It’s like calling your child marmite or Horlivka.
Same in Australia. I think it's a lovely name but definite chocolate milk associations here!
BiscuitLover3678 · 11/01/2022 02:29

@hertsgirls

I like it. Loads of nice names are popular for dogs. Phoebe, Poppy, Sadie etc. So I wouldn't let that put me off!

It does feel quite trendy at the moment if that bothers you.

I also tend to like dog names! Luna, Ruby, Jasper, Felix Grin
BiscuitLover3678 · 11/01/2022 02:27

It’s nice. It’s an old German name. Yes it’s a tweenie name but so are Bella and Jake. It’s just more well used now.

German form of Miles if you prefer that.

Doesn’t have the same public school vibes of Monty.
