There’s a place near where we live called Fenton Barns. My friend’s sister always say it sounds like a male character from a Mills & Boon book “oh Fenton!”

I used to know a Princess Elizabeth in whose parents wanted her to be called by her full name at all times. She later decided to go by Lizzie

My sister works with someone whose kids are Tiger-Lily, Phoenix and Bodhi. I think the surname is fairly British standard but am often impressed at the parents' gumption. My mum would have given me hell if I'd tried anything too offbeat and - sadly for me - I care too much about what other people think.

popular names and normal. Not sure what the fuss is.

I wonder if the kids with the really out there names changed it to something ordinary when they grew up? Truly Scrumptious's parents might be peeved if she changed her name to Jane!

That was about 15 or so years ago and if I remember rightly the girls were both in the early years of primary school so would be in their early 20s now.

Well, yes, but when parents give a baby an unusual name, it's the child who's being landed with a lifetime of spelling it, correcting pronunciation, fielding the endless questions. If parents like a very unusual name, they could always change their own.

Little girl called Faraday. Love it.

I used to live near Faradey Avenue and loved that name

so would always drive down that way so Google maps lady would pronounce it (very elegantly !)

Blimey. So Christmas cards would read something like

Love from Mary, Bill, John, Sally, Hereward and Elfrida

The author Rumer Godden has a wonderful name. As does Evelyn Waugh. Merle Oberon is another I love.

Evelyn Waugh's first wife was also called Evelyn, and as she would undoubtedly have changed her surname on marriage, she was also Evelyn Waugh. Their friends called them He-Evelyn and She-Evelyn. The marriage was shortlived, but not because of the name issue. He was notoriously irritable, though, and I wonder how he coped with the inevitable confusion and constant clarifications needed.

My DD was working in HR and one of the employees names was Iona Bucket this was verified on her passport.

She was Eastern European and her English was very limited we think an unkind person ‘helped’ her anglicise her name for her move to the UK.

She was a cleaner.

My grandson was at school with a Ptolemy.

I forgot about Judge Judge. All through his legal studies, he must have had to endure endless jokes about his name, but he had the last laugh. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Igor_Judge,_Baron_Judge

I saw a poster once, no word of a lie, for a talk to be given at the university where I worked, by a Doctor Doctor. I think he would have been a medical professional, given the subject matter.
