I recently heard of an Elphinstone Dalgleish. Have also met a couple of kids called Star.

What fun/marvellous/slightly wacky names have you come across?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

My colleague always tells me about the boy she was in school with called James Virgin. Quite an unfortunate surname in the first place but he had a sister called Mary! So on a register she'd be Virgin, Mary Grin

The head of department at my uni is called Gaylor Boobyer.

Willie Gubbins. Lovely chap.

MagicKit · 12/01/2022 20:44

A health professional I once saw was called Carmel Cracknell.

My mum used to work for the NHS, best names she shared with me were fraternal twins called Falcon and Falconess. Superb!

There are some great names in the Victorian cemetery beside my flat:
Sunshine Cornthwaite
Willoughby Ibbotson
Worthington Bridge
Azelia Sharp
Septimus Frost
Batty Castle
Easter Fairy

Are some of my favourites!

I like the name of the news broadcaster Damian Gramaticus.

I went to school with a Ronnie Rennie. Why? What were Mr&Mrs Rennie thinking?

mistermagpie · 12/01/2022 19:54

My son goes to school with Tavish McDougall (we live in Scotland), I love that!

Also when I was at school there was a boy called Marc Aqualina (said Aqua-leena) and, although he was utterly unremarkable, we all wanted to marry him so we could be Mrs Aqualina.

I know I am being thick, but that is the third time the name Tim Mallet has come up and I can't for the life of me understand why it is unusual.

What am I missing?

I assume it’s because the posters grew up watching Timmy Mallett on kids tv.

@thesparkthatbled

Best name I've ever come across is a lady in a social history book about the Scottish Isles: Euphemia McCrimmon. She looked stern as hell in the pictures as well!

I know siblings called Ellis and Eloise, both lovely names, but an odd choice for siblings I always thought.

I've met a Ron McDonald.

DH used to work with a Tim Mallet

I wonder if that's the same one as the Tim E. Mallet I came across? That's how he signed off, with the initial in too

@caringcarer

In the past I have taught students called Vincent, Jeramiah and another called Milicent.
Millicent is a classic British name? I wanted to call my DD that but had a son instead.

How is Vincent a wild/unusual name?

Velvian · 11/01/2022 22:54

I know a toddler named Banjo.

KineticSand · 11/01/2022 22:38

MerylSqueak · 11/01/2022 22:26

My DD was delivered by a doctor called Mohammed Ali, which tickled me Smile
