I recently heard of an Elphinstone Dalgleish. Have also met a couple of kids called Star.

What fun/marvellous/slightly wacky names have you come across?

Twins, Mungo and Ludo, they are posh and I always imagine their Mother was a pioneer mumsnetter.

A girl called Valentino - yes, with an O 🤦🏽‍♀️

PoleFairy · 02/02/2022 16:50

I knew a Summer Luvin. I cant remember if that was her married name or not.

I know a girl named Blaise who has natural waist length flaming red hair.

There is a gravestone at Undercliffe cemetery in Bradford in memory of the wonderfully named Eugenia Fanny.

I knew a Randy Pratt at uni. He was American and didn't get what people found so funny. Unfortunately he lived up to both his names.

That's a beauty! Smile

Blaze Fontaine

There was a competitor on Pointless the other day called Rhapsody. She said her sister was called Symphony.

Reminds me of the drummer in the stranglers < am an old gimmer>

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 19/01/2022 13:38

Jett Black has reminded me of a guy I was at university with by the name of Matt Dymond. Havn’t thought of him or his name for 30 years!

steppemum · 19/01/2022 13:22

Just thinking of naming Jett Black.

baby born with thick head of dark hair - Oh lets call her Jett, or Ebony or Melanie

Roll on 3 months, all ther newborn hair has fallen out and thin fine mousy brown is growing in! (or white blond, which was my brother)

JakeyRolling · 19/01/2022 08:42

@Laureatus

I went to school with a girl called Jett Black. She was very cool. There was a kid a few years below me called Storm as well.
I wonder if we went to the same school. Said Jett had a lot of awesome curly black hair too

Maybe, though the Jael I knew didn't have Jewish heritage. @BloodyDamsons certainly no one would want to go on a camping trip with them!

ladycarlotta · 18/01/2022 22:14

To be fair, Yael is a very common Jewish name, so for a lot of people it might have transcended its famous owner to be 'just a name'. My friend with that name is more interested in the fact that it means ibex.

My daughter's MN is Judith and I really wanted to put up a print of the Gentileschi painting somewhere in the house but my partner put his foot down. I'll sneak one in somewhere...

BloodyDamsons · 18/01/2022 16:15

Oh I think I could be tempted to name twin girls Jael and Judith Grin.

No-one would mess with my daughters.

110APiccadilly · 18/01/2022 15:25

Talking of reading the story, I know a Jael. I know Jael is the heroine, but even so it's quite someone to name your child after.

steppemum · 18/01/2022 12:02

@TheGratefulBread

I know a Zipporah, which I think is glorious.
There are some fantastic old Bible names. No-one uses them now, but you see them on gravestones etc and wonder at the parents looking at their beautiful daughter and thinking Hepzibah or Jezebel (I mean, don't they read the story!)

SlipperTripper · 17/01/2022 23:37

I know a family with the surname Goodall-Knight. Always marvelled at the double barrelling of those two names.

I once met a Feichin Frisbee. Feichin sounds like Feckin'.

WindInTheWillows7 · 17/01/2022 22:38

I also knew a bus driver whose name was genuinely Aston Martin.

WindInTheWillows7 · 17/01/2022 22:37

I met a little boy called Royal

Hoppinggreen · 17/01/2022 18:17

@Spidey66

I once knew a Wayne Kerr and a Teresa Green.
Wayne Ankers is a local to me reporter. He uses his full name at times

My socially pretentious MIL announced the birth of my first 2 babies in The Times. On both occasions a Mrs Pine-Coffin also had given birth and announced it in the same column . I've forgotten what the forenames were. The Pine-Coffins are an old military family I gather, and they are proud of the name.
