Sylvie or Lottie

I must have literally looked at every single name there is by this point. The only name me and my dh agree on and like more than any other is Charlotte (nn Lottie) but I keep coming back to Sylvie! DD1’s first name is two syllable and ends in a. Dh isn’t that keen but I’m hoping he’ll concede once he’s seen me go through labour again, as I get the impression he’d have let me name DD1 yoda if I’d so wanted after seeing me give birth! Blush what are your thoughts given a choice between the two?!

I say Charlotte... probably because it's my name Smile

I was Lottie when I was little and I'm Charlie as an adult. Much better nickname options than Sylvia. I actually started to hate Lottie by the time I got to about 10 - it felt very girlish.

Saying that, if your gut says Sylvie, that's what you should go for!

I really like both to be honest. I’m not sure where you’re based but if you live somewhere where they drop their Ts Lottie doesn’t sound so nice.

I love Lottie a lot.
Have you considered Sylvia ?

Bortles · 10/01/2022 19:07

Sylvie as it suits an adult, which she will be for most of her life. It also has a lovely meaning.

vivivivienne · 10/01/2022 19:06

Both absolutely lovely names OP! could you use Sylvie as a middle name as a compromise?
Charlotte Sylvie

I really like Sylvie! Hopefully your DH will change his mind if you really like it.

LyraVega · 10/01/2022 19:04

I like both!

I've liked Sylvie since the film One Day came out but now its a character in Emily in Paris I wonder if it will increase in popularity, but that wouldn't put me off personally!

Lottie is also cute!

Charlotte would be the name on the birth certificate, we would probably use Lottie while she was little - then she can choose to use Charlotte/Charlie etc. If she wanted.

If your DH doesn't like Sylvie then it has to be off the table. Is Lottie going to be full name, or short for Charlotte? Not keen on Lottie as a standalone and if Lottie is nickname, she may grow up to prefer Charlotte, Charlie, Charl etc.
