I told my MIL my favourite name and she looked like she had seen a ghost.
Please tell me my name is not awful

It would probably get shortened to Frankie, which I think sounds better.

Francis is wet and horrible. Fran is awful. Frank/Frankie are some of the ugliest names ever.

I like it, but it's strictly middle name territory for me because I can't stand any of the diminutives. I feel the same way about Patrick.

I love Francis. Frank is a charming nickname. Agree with other posters though, that I'd stop telling other people tour plans for baby names. People are much less likely to make nasty comments when you present the name attached to your baby.
