Opinions on this boys name? Living in the UK.

Since your partner is Italian, I think Enzo or Lorenzo is lovely. I also like Leandro (could be nicknamed to Leo) and Matteo.

Honeyroar · 10/01/2022 22:01

I always thought it was Italian for Henry. Not keen on it personally. Sounds like a product not a person.

Edenember · 10/01/2022 21:58

One of my pets names. It’s fine - I think it will feel dated in England in years to come because of it being part of the short vowelly / names with O sound trend as other people have mentioned - Otis, Ezra, Arlo, Hugo, Milo etc.

TedsaidFred · 09/01/2022 17:47

I know a half Italian half English Enzo short for Vincenzo. With Italian surname. I definitely think it's absolutely fine in UK if there is italian heritage, it fits with the O ending trend.

@Melassa

Enzo is a diminutive, not a stand-alone name and it is old man where I live (northern Italy), all the ones I know are in their 70s.

Lorenzo is abbreviated Lore/Lory and Vincenzo these days is Vinci (although I only know one, but lots of Lorenzos as there was a surge here a few years back - all are in their late teens and twenties).

Maybe it’s more of a thing in the south, where there is a tradition of naming after grandparents, but you’d probably find that Grandpa Vincenzo is known as Enzo but grandson Vincenzo gets called Vinci at school.

No, I'm in Puglia and it's definitely not a thing here. (well, the grandparents thing is obviously but in itself there are still very few of either name) I remember the upsurge in Lorenzo popularity a decade or so back, but it was, as you say, pretty short lived.
Suzi888 · 09/01/2022 17:18

My DM knows an Enzo- short for Vincenzo.

Gigi97 · 09/01/2022 17:10

My partner is from the south 👍

It's definitely Vincenzo not Lorenzo.
Lorenzo is usually shortened to Lore.
It could be Lorenzo at a push.
Unusual to find a Vincenzo or Lorenzo at any age under 40 who's not been named after Grandad. I've been teaching for 27 years and have had only one Vincenzo and about 3 Lorenzos.

Lulu1919 · 09/01/2022 16:37

Sorry but I know an Enzo....he's a dog 🐶

@Gigi97

My partner is Italian. Moved here 6 years ago. He says Enzo is a stand alone name in Italy, however some people also use it as a nickname for names like Lorenzo (Renzo too) or Vincenzo x
That's interesting, maybe it's a regional thing?
thickthighs73 · 09/01/2022 15:26

Another yes (but would of say no if not of italian heritage)

NuffSaidSam · 09/01/2022 15:24

It always makes me think of the Muppets/Sesame Street. It's sort of a mix of Elmo and Gonzo.

I know a few and it's doesn't raise any eyebrows, if you like it go for it.

Roselilly36 · 09/01/2022 15:18

I love it.

Skeumorph · 09/01/2022 14:50

Yes if you have Italian heritage, it's lovely.

Also if partner it will be your surname so nice to have both 'sides'

Italian DH says Enzo is usually short for Vincenzo not Lorenzo, that would be Renzo.

I like it OP, but I think it does depend on the surname.

AdaColeman · 09/01/2022 10:32

If you are using it as a nn for Lorenzo then it’s fine, but I’m not keen on it as a stand alone name. It would be like Tommy or Jimmy, I don’t think diminutives work well as stand alone names.

UserBot989 · 09/01/2022 10:29

I love it. Id go for Lorenzo as well so that if 'o' names badly badly dste they will he could use laurie / laurence / lorenzo

RedpepperRisotto · 09/01/2022 10:28

@AlwaysLatte

I know two Enzos and they are both dogs!
Same, only know a golden retriever called Enzo.
Fleur405 · 09/01/2022 10:26

I love the full version of the name (Lorenzo - Enzo is a nickname) but I’m half Italian but I do find it a bit weird how traditional Italian boys names are becoming so popular here!

DefyingSanity · 09/01/2022 10:08

@Wallabyone

If you're Italian, it's fine! I too thought it was short for Lorenzo? But I guess it's the same as Alfie, Theo, etc being the given names.
This. Unless you're Italian it's not particularly going to sound good with Smith or most English surnames.

@DwangelaForever

Vampire diaries fan?
That's where my brain went first. I do like it though. If I was still having children I can't say Damon wouldn't be on my possible name list for a second.
