Which one for Baby Boy (he’s three weeks- it’s desperate times)

Walter or Hugo?

I love Walter- it’s so classic and lovely. I can see and handsome man being Walter. But is it too much for a baby or little boy? (Husband loves it and is pushing for it). I’ve heard all the ‘connotations’ for Walter and am not bothered by them.

Hugo- again, a lovely, strong handsome name.

Which do we go for? Our boy has white blonde hair , blue eyes and is oh so beautiful!

Both names are fine, but don’t be brave, use the name you love. It’s such a pleasure to say your child’s name and love the name as much as the child.

Walter. You sound more enthusiastic about it, and it sounds more distinctive than Hugo. Not only is Hugo popular in it's own right, but he'll be in a classroom with Leo, Theo, Milo, Arlo, Margot, Willow and together it all starts to sound a bit dull.
Agree with this

Ok, so we’ve got some strong opinions!

I’m glad to hear Walter getting some love. I’m working on it. I can’t imagine anyone calling a child (or adult) Wally- so the nickname doesn’t really worry me. Walt is a good enough nn.

I know how popular Hugo is- but it’s just so lovely (probably why it’s popular) and we were going with Hugo till husband decided to be ‘brave’ and wanted to use Walter. So I’m trying to get my head around it and I’m not there yet.

I love both but prefer Walter.

Glitteringduck · 07/01/2022 22:42

Definitely not Walter as it will be shortened to Wally. No-one wants to be called a Wally

muchprefersummer · 07/01/2022 22:42

Love Walter, can be shortened to Walt if desired.
Hugo is nice but I know so many Hugo's at the moment it isn't classed as unusual, for me anyway.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 07/01/2022 22:37

@Onlinedilema

Walter is awful. Hugo is much better.
Yes. Walter is just not nice, sorry! Very old fashioned and ugly sounding and Wally is an awful nickname. Hugo is better...but it's a bit meh. Have you considered Hugh? More unusual and distinctive, IMO.
17caterpillars1mouse · 07/01/2022 22:37

Definitely Walter

Olga03 · 07/01/2022 22:36

Why don't you call the little one for three days Walter and for three days Hugo?
I like both names :)

nocoolnamesleft · 07/01/2022 22:36

Hugo. Wally is such an unkind nickname.

bdd2017 · 07/01/2022 22:33

Hugo

thunderandsunshine01 · 07/01/2022 22:33

I like Walter better Smile

knightsinwhitesatin · 07/01/2022 22:32

I like Walter, I think Walt is a lovely nn

MaryChristmouse · 07/01/2022 22:32

Hugo much better than Walter.

I usually like 'old fashioned' names but Walter is a step too far!

toastofthetown · 07/01/2022 22:32

HonestlyFFS · 07/01/2022 22:32

I love Walter but would hate Wally as a nickname. Hugo is nice too.

Lightswitch123 · 07/01/2022 22:31

Walter 1st name Hugo middle?

Onlinedilema · 07/01/2022 22:30

Walter is awful.
Hugo is much better.

Hellosunshine1234 · 07/01/2022 22:30

Walter for sure, great name

Mumdiva99 · 07/01/2022 22:29

Walter.

Hugo sounds like the name a posh public school buffoon character is given in a film.

Walt or Wally short form.

HoldingTheDoor · 07/01/2022 22:27

Definitely Hugo. Walter is such an unattractive and comedic name.

ShaneTheThird · 07/01/2022 22:27

Walter is gorgeous and is one of my choices. Congrats! Can be Wally or Walt or Wal as well.

SittingOvation · 07/01/2022 22:26

I prefer Hugo. Walter is still a bit too old-man-ish for my liking.

stairgates · 07/01/2022 22:26

Go with Walter, it will grow on you and DH already loves it :)
