Walter or Hugo?

I love Walter- it’s so classic and lovely. I can see and handsome man being Walter. But is it too much for a baby or little boy? (Husband loves it and is pushing for it). I’ve heard all the ‘connotations’ for Walter and am not bothered by them.

Hugo- again, a lovely, strong handsome name.

Which do we go for? Our boy has white blonde hair , blue eyes and is oh so beautiful!

Walter makes ne think of warts for some reason. Go with Hugo

DillDanding · 08/01/2022 12:34

Hugo.

Walter is just awful.

AuntieStella · 08/01/2022 12:32

Hugo

Walter is the softie from The Beano, and Walter Mittie is not a great association, especially as 'walt hunting' is the name given to the exposure on conmen and women posing as military

Blubells · 08/01/2022 12:32

Please choose Walter!

It's a great strong classic name that's much more memorable than Hugo. You and your dh love it and appear to prefer it.

Hugo is often described as 'posh' or 'bafoony' and it's not as classy mo.

HitsAndMrs · 08/01/2022 12:29

Walter!
Hugo is everywhere.

MrsSkylerWhite · 08/01/2022 12:29

Not keen on Walter. Walt is nice.

Marynotsocontrary · 08/01/2022 12:27

Hugh is nicer than Hugo imo.

ladycardamom · 08/01/2022 12:25

Hugo.

RuthW · 08/01/2022 10:30

Walter. I know a baby Walter

JugglingJanuary · 08/01/2022 03:29

Have you given birth to an 85 yo man or a posh git?

Hugo

If he's likely to grow up in an area full of Hugo's & Ralph's it'll be ok, but if it's full of Kaydens & Jayden's - not so much.

Walter if you call him Walt.

He sounds adorable and whichever name you give him will seem 'right' because it will be him!

Have you considered Matthew/matty/Mat??

MaryStuart · 08/01/2022 03:28

I think Walter / Walt is ‘old man’ too far.
And Wally is a definite no no.
So Hugo

Obsidiansphere · 08/01/2022 03:26

Hugo
Walter is awful, don’t inflict that on the poor kid

usingitallup · 08/01/2022 03:16

Hugo the only Walter I've ever known was a fat bus driver!

LiG123 · 08/01/2022 03:13

My grandad is Wally, (Walter.) And I think I prefer Hugo over Wally

2pinkginsplease · 08/01/2022 03:00

Definitely Hugo.

Walter reminds me of a sleazy old man I know, Walt and Watty don’t sound great for a baby.

Tomlettegregg · 08/01/2022 02:52

Wally and Walt are terrible nicknames. Walt Disney was a nazi.. I'd go with Hugo but it is very posh.

LAHybridrc · 08/01/2022 02:36

Kids don’t really use Wally as an insult these days. We came across a Walter at a play area a few years ago now and I thought it was gorgeous; I’d go for Walter definitely.

Luredbyapomegranate · 08/01/2022 02:34

Hugo

But Walter isn’t bad

whatausername · 08/01/2022 02:32

Hugo! If your DH is being "brave" to go for a name (i.e. Walter) then you likely will have to bank on your child being brave too. And that's just unfair.

MerryMarigold · 07/01/2022 23:06

I much prefer Walter and I love Walt as a nn. I think Hugo sounds arrogant. There some 'hubris' in it.

ofwarren · 07/01/2022 23:06

I prefer Hugo. It's a much stronger sounding name than Walter.

NoSquirrels · 07/01/2022 23:01

Walter

immersivereader · 07/01/2022 22:59

Not Walter

ImInStealthMode · 07/01/2022 22:56

Walter for me with Walt as a NN Smile I had a lovely Uncle Walter.

Hugo is nice too but more common.

3boyshere · 07/01/2022 22:56

Would you consider Henry instead x
