Which one for Baby Boy (he’s three weeks- it’s desperate times)

Walter or Hugo?

I love Walter- it’s so classic and lovely. I can see and handsome man being Walter. But is it too much for a baby or little boy? (Husband loves it and is pushing for it). I’ve heard all the ‘connotations’ for Walter and am not bothered by them.

Hugo- again, a lovely, strong handsome name.

Which do we go for? Our boy has white blonde hair , blue eyes and is oh so beautiful!

Do not subject your child to the nickname 'Wally'.

GiltEdges · 08/01/2022 17:56

I'm biased because I have one of my own, but I prefer Hugo Smile

I really dislike "Wally" as a nickname and have come across a few, young and old, who ended up using it.

Sirzy · 08/01/2022 17:55

Out of the two Hugo although both are nice.

But if after 3 weeks neither fit maybe look at other names too?

RedCandyApple · 08/01/2022 17:52

Hugo I really dislike Walter I would go as far as saying it’s ugly sorry

HacerSonarSusPasos · 08/01/2022 17:47

Another vote for Hugo

Blubells · 08/01/2022 17:47

Walter is refreshing and memorable

Hugo is often described as 'posh'

Spidey66 · 08/01/2022 17:43

I prefer Hugo.

Curlyreine · 08/01/2022 17:42

Hugo is very common to me IRL. Walter is not and I love it. Congratulations OP!

northernbutterfly · 08/01/2022 17:34

Both lovely. I prefer Hugo but you both love Walter so do it.

Have you tried calling baby each name for a day at a time to see how it feels? Remember he'll only be a baby for a short time and nicknames tend to pop up when full names feel too formal

DillDanding · 08/01/2022 17:32

Walter is such an ugly name. It makes me think of a geeky nerd. Like Walter Brown in the Beano.

SingleHandSue · 08/01/2022 17:30

Congratulations! Flowers

I know you’re running out of time but I’d be going back to the drawing board.
Walter is really not good and Hugo is dumb posh boy although marginally better than Walter.

DreamGem · 08/01/2022 17:28

Hugo
I like Walt more than Walter

UserBot989 · 08/01/2022 17:24

Hugo
Walter is just too ''wally'' for me.

BunnyRuddington · 08/01/2022 17:19

You both love Walter. Just go for it.

Congratulations on your new LO Thanks

Mumofgirls2017 · 08/01/2022 17:08

I can’t get on board with the name Hugo, I like walter and it’s more refreshing.

UsernameIsHarderThanBabyName · 08/01/2022 16:59

Walter ❤️

Blubells · 08/01/2022 14:21

Op, sounds like you and your dh really love Walter! Go for it. It is a gentleman's name as someone mentioned earlier.

RoseHarper · 08/01/2022 13:57

Soneone upthread mentioned the pleasure you get from your childs name if you truly love it, bear this in mind, you shouldn't need to "feel brave" about a name, you just need to love it.

Dresslover1950s · 08/01/2022 13:56

Walter is my son’s middle name

KleineDracheKokosnuss · 08/01/2022 13:54

Hugo is pretty commonly used now. Walter (Walt) is growing on me the more I sit and think about it.

Pegasushaswings · 08/01/2022 13:51

A vote for Walter from me, its such a gentleman's name, less keen on Hugo as its a bit overused atm

WhoppingBigBackside · 08/01/2022 13:48

Walter. Hugo is probably more popular than you think

Pieceofpurplesky · 08/01/2022 12:59

I dislike Walter but if you love it then go for it. Hugo is a bit meh. I teach a few.

For what it's worth kids don't really take the piss out of names (and I teach some rare ones!)

Shuffletime · 08/01/2022 12:45

If you prefer Walter for him as an adult go for Walter. They're only babies for such a short time, you've got to go for a name that will last a lifetime.

Amichelle84 · 08/01/2022 12:42

Both lovely but I prefer Hugo :)
