Thoughts on this name for a baby boy? What do you think of when you hear the name Dominic?

My DS is Dominic and he's 15 now, often Dom to his friends.

Mr Cummings has rather besmirched the name of late...

@AndAllOurYesterdays

I can't believe no one has mentioned the Italian Christmas Donkey! As that's what plays in my head when someone says Dominic
We have a little Dominic in our family, he never gets Dom or Nic for short but he does sometimes get Dominic the Donkey!!!

I’ve always liked Dominic. It’s a proper meme.

MadeOfStarStuff · 11/01/2022 19:49

I like it

Skeumorph · 10/01/2022 23:11

@Lightningrain

I like Dominic but really dislike Dom. I know a Dom and when he says his name, to my ears it always sounds like someone with a cold saying Tom.
Tominic, Tom for short Grin
Skeumorph · 10/01/2022 23:10

It's definitely not a cheerful jolly name at all. A slight Damien vibe maybe? - they're a bit close.

Skeumorph · 10/01/2022 23:09

Cummings, sadly!

I used to like it, and then realised I'd genuinely never met a nice one, so it put me off and now I think of it as a sinister nasty man name!

DramaAlpaca · 10/01/2022 19:12

Love it

WhoppingBigBackside · 10/01/2022 18:36

The ones I know are Dom.

LittleGwyneth · 10/01/2022 17:25

Love it.

KloppsTeeth · 08/01/2022 23:02

I have known 3 adults with this name, all of them have been lovely. I worked with a Dominic, and he was one of the nicest people I have ever met. Lovey name.

EishetChayil · 08/01/2022 22:13

I had a schoolmate called this, and he used to get called Condominic - that's all I think of when I hear this name!

It seems like a very popular name now, There are about 5 boys in the village school here with this name.. and several adult men in the village too, probably the Fathers of the boys, who gave their sons the same name as themselves.

HopefulRose · 08/01/2022 21:06

I see ‘Dominic’ and I think ‘Cummings’ .. totally ruined for me.

But I work in medialand so perhaps if not so exposed to the news you may escape this!

Luredbyapomegranate · 08/01/2022 19:34

Cummings right now.. 🧟‍♂️

But it’s a nice name.

FixItUpChappie · 08/01/2022 03:25

I LOVE this name. If we would have had another boy it would have been a real contender

Heh1991 · 08/01/2022 03:19

I really like it would be one of my choices too! I like that it’s well known enough that it wouldn’t raise an eyebrow and fairly easy to spell but that it’s unusual enough that there probably won’t be any others in his class! I also really like Dom as nickname- go for it!

resm · 08/01/2022 02:45

Love the name Dominic and was on my list for second son.

GreenLunchBox · 07/01/2022 15:46

Love it

@PlainJane1000

I love it and it was on our shortlist for DS1 but hate the nn Dom (in my head the old advert for domestos bleach "big bad Dom" plays!) which was a deciding factor against it. It's interesting reading pp's saying ones they have/know don't get shortened. I imagine my MIL would instantly shorten it! Also the recent Dominic's in parliament are not great namesakes if you are in the UK at the moment.
People have tried to shorten it a couple of times. I (and then DS as he got older) told them he was Dominic not Dom and they didn't shorten it again.
