Too close to Judas? My husband seems to think so, but I love the name. Opinions please?

I like it. Don’t know any boys called it but I know a twenty something who hates her name (Judith) and uses Jude.

Snowiscold · 12/01/2022 16:34

I like it a lot.

Dragonfly2022 · 12/01/2022 14:31

I have a Jude. I love the name so much and get so many compliments. Although we didn't choose it for this reason, the St Jude connection feels so apt for us - our Jude was conceived naturally after many years of TTC, multiple losses and failed IVFs attempts. I definitely feel like DH and I were a hopeless case fertility-wise until our little Jude came along.

Merrymermaid7 · 10/01/2022 23:11

I have a 17 year old jude, it's a great name and suits him

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 10/01/2022 23:01

At last a name I really like. Love Jude.

ExcuseeeeMe · 10/01/2022 22:55

Lovely name

Blubells · 10/01/2022 22:47

It's definitely not a great name outside of the UK/US. The Jew association is very strong for many people.

Cbeebiesrehab · 10/01/2022 21:49

Clearly as it is ranked 53rd in the charts, a lot of people don’t share your view on it @Words

For this reason :

This is so interesting. It makes me absolutely cringe but lots think it's ok - cool, aspirational. Just no! Shock

maddy68 · 09/01/2022 17:54

My friend us called Jude and I cringe everytine I see her and say "hey Jude ". I say hey to all my friends but I know it wears thin for her.

RedHot22 · 09/01/2022 17:52

I love it

oviraptor21 · 09/01/2022 17:49

Jude is a great name. Quite cool. A slightly more modern Finn. It's at no.47 in the top boys' names list so not too popular yet though maybe more popular in some circles than others.

HoldingTheDoor · 09/01/2022 17:41

Jude is awful.

MsBananas · 09/01/2022 17:41

It’s a lovely name. I had it on my list for DS but DH vetoed.

musicviking1 · 09/01/2022 17:39

I like the name Jude but I'd be concerned about when he got to secondary school, would kids call him Judy / Judith?

itwasntaparty · 08/01/2022 20:28

@itwasntaparty

Love it, mugging like Judas
Jesus not mugging ffs! Nothing...!
Hopefulbride18 · 08/01/2022 20:14

This is what we're choosing if DC2 is a boy so I like it and we've weighed up all the potential associations (every name has them!) and I don't think many will associate with Judas.

itwasntaparty · 08/01/2022 20:08

Love it, mugging like Judas

manseymoo1987 · 08/01/2022 20:07

I really like it.

saywhatwhatnow · 08/01/2022 20:00

I like it but it's quite popular here, I know three under 5.

MaryChristmouse · 08/01/2022 19:58

Love Jude!

It just sounds cool!

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 08/01/2022 19:57

Gives me 2010 vibes but I do like the name.

I see the St Jude connection as a positive too. He comes to people's aid when they're at their lowest ebb. Pretty cool as patron saints go.

Jude the Obscure is a book I try to forget though. Bleak really does not cover it. Too menny sad parts, but one in particular...

Cbeebiesrehab · 08/01/2022 19:50

I never understand why people are put off by the Saint? He’s the saint that people turn to when they feel all hope is lost, the Saint that they ask for help and inner strength. People pray to Saint Jude in times when they feel their cause is impossible and they trust that his prayer will help them. I actually think that’s a nice thing.

I do get the German thing however. It didn’t put me off but I can understand why it might.

Roselilly36 · 08/01/2022 19:31

It’s quite popular, probably because of Jude Law. The saint connection would put me off tbh.
