Or has it had its day? Debating with DP.

Una is much more fresh than Luna. Luna has defo had its day. I like Una.

Edenember · 10/01/2022 22:02

I really like it in itself, but I concur with others about the pets / footballers kids association being off putting. If those aren’t associations for you and you really love it it’s fine. Una is gorgeous, prefer that, particularly the Oona spelling.

Saltypeppa · 09/01/2022 01:36

Wow, thanks everyone. Looks like it's a bit or a marmite name! The dog/cat reference doesn't really bother me, I'm just worried it will be a Lisa type name in a few years.
I've had some inspiration from this board - we're currently discussing Una instead!

It's a dog name currently

WorstXmasEver · 08/01/2022 22:40

Sounds like you're naming a unicorn or a brand of sanitary towel.

Buytoomuchonebay · 08/01/2022 22:36

I’ve met a Luna-lovely shy little dot of a girl

And about 6 dogs

My daughter wants her firstborn daughter to be a Luna-I’ll just be grateful if she doesn’t call the poor sod megaslayer or something like that

I wouldn’t put that one past her

EishetChayil · 08/01/2022 22:20

Pets and footballers' kids.

I LOVE this name!!! My DP doesn't!!!! Urgh!

We are expecting twins (gender unknown at the mo) but would've loved this....don't think I'll get away with it unfortunately xx

Roselilly36 · 08/01/2022 19:09

I would agree popular for pets. Not what I would chose for a baby, Luna-tic would put me off tbh.

Luredbyapomegranate · 08/01/2022 19:05

It’s had its day.

And that’s without so many similar names being about - Lara, Lola, Lyra, Lena, Leila, blah blah

Seashor · 07/01/2022 22:16

No, it still sounds and always will sound, ridiculous. Looney, loopy Luna.

Cbeebiesrehab · 07/01/2022 18:31

Quirky a few years ago but then became super popular and therefore lost its charm. Feel the same about Willow.

DoraDont · 07/01/2022 17:51

Makes me think of cockapoos.

Also, lunatic/loony etc.

If you like it for it's moon connotations, how about stars instead, Stella/Estelle/Estella maybe?

Pickledlipstick · 07/01/2022 17:46

Makes me think of a crazy person, or a dog

StopStartStop · 07/01/2022 17:44

Luna is a black dog. Like a retriever.
Call your child 'Lotus Blossom'. That's a nice name.

SnowyPetals · 07/01/2022 17:38

In my mind, Luna has a most impressive kaftan collection and knows all about crystal healing.

pilates · 07/01/2022 17:36

I know a lot of dogs called Luna.

wetotter · 07/01/2022 17:30

It's a very, very common dogs name.

My pet theory is that people who like it, but think it's unfair to give to a human (because of the silent -tic) give it to their pets instead.

It'll sound furry, not fresh

Shannith · 07/01/2022 12:09

As everyone has said. Pet name. I know a cat and a horse called Luna. No children (thankfully).

Sorry but I think you should rethink. What is it about Luna you like? Sound? Meaning? - perhaps the experts on her can suggest some alternatives.

toastofthetown · 07/01/2022 12:06

@TeeBee

Very much a pet name, not for a child. Akin to 'Rover'.
Not really though. Luna was the 36th most popular names last year in England and Wales, while Rover has never been ranked for babies. Luna is more like Bella, Poppy, Max or Alfie.
toastofthetown · 07/01/2022 12:04

<a class="break-all" href="//]names.darkgreener.com/#luna" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">As of 2020, Luna was still rising year on year, thought its climb is slowing. Luna will probably reach its peak in one of the next few data releases. Based on that, while not fresh, it's not stale yet either.

Whether you still think it sounds fresh or not is a different issue. Personally I'm sick of Luna and it's sounding tired to me, but then I pay more attention to name trends than most. On the other hand, someone described Luna as too out there a couple of years ago, so clearly the name hasn't reached saturation point for everyone. Names are personal and and someone thinks it's had it's day then that's true for them.

NewYearNewKale · 07/01/2022 12:00

I have heard a dog called this just this week!

However I've thought it pretty in the past.

Maybe Serena? Or Selina?

Kitkat151 · 07/01/2022 11:56

It’s a dogs name

Viviennemary · 07/01/2022 11:55

Its dire. I wouldn't even saddle a cat with the name.
