My due date is Jan 16th and I know I have 6 weeks after that to name her, but I wanted dh to ring family to say she's arrived with a name.
My favourite name has always been Mabli but DH went off it. I thought we'd cracked it with Nerys but I went off it and DH said he had too.
The name doesn't have to be Welsh. We have a very boring surname and I want something to stand out against it. I'm not into 'flouncy' names, surnames or unisex names. DH likes a good flounce! Mn will be Joanne/Joanna due to honouring family.
At the moment we have nothing. Please help!

Oh that's a shame, I thought Marsali was a good mix between your tastes.

What about Marisa (Ma-ree-sa)? Or Marissa? On a similar vein, I knew a Larissa years ago which I've always thought was a lovely name.

Would he go for Eirlys? Welsh and a bit more on the frilly side? A great name for a January baby as well as it means snowdrop.

I think our Welsh name tastes are similar, so here are some non-Welsh names I like, in case helpful.

Juliet
Sabrina
Evangeline
Rosa
Louisa
Rosalie/Rosalind/Rosanna
Naomi
Verity

I like Eira

Antiqueanniesmagiclanternshow · 07/01/2022 21:25

He's not wrong to be fair

WeasilyPleased · 07/01/2022 21:25

He just laughed when I suggested Marsali. Said it sounded like ghastly 😡
I love Hazel but it's my nephew's rabbit!
Apparently Vera Frieda and Marcy are too frumpy and Cariad, Morven and Merryn are too weird.
Anybody want a husband, only slighly used?!

I love Marsali! It's used in the series Outlander and it's pronounced to rhyme with parsley.

Ah, you've a DH like mine - he likes names like Annabelle, Florence, Charlotte and Isabelle. Whereas I tend to like shorter names like Alys and Mari.

Might yours like a longer Welsh name like Angharad or Rhiannon?

Belinda is quite a suggestion!

Eilidh is lovely and so are Ishbel and Morven (I'd use Morven myself if I had Scottish roots).

GoodnightGrandma · 07/01/2022 15:54

Mabel.
Margot.
Nancy.

NoSquirrels · 07/01/2022 15:53

How about Ailsa? Catriona?

Eluned
Mairead
Gwenllian - Gwen for every day.

WeasilyPleased · 07/01/2022 15:40

Thank you. Dh likes frillier names like Felicity Arabella and his favourite is Belinda. I was at school with a Belinda who the boys called Bellender so thats a firm no.
Marsali is interesting as it's different with a little bit of frill! How is it pronounced?

What is is about Mabli your DH didn't like? What does he like that you don't and vice versa - might help us think of something you would both like?

NoSquirrels · 07/01/2022 12:26

But to be honest, Mabli is lovely and I’d see if my DH didn’t magically come around to it when she’s born - my DH reckons he’d have agreed to anything I liked in the moments post-birth Grin
