Thoughts? Would it instantly be shortened to Julie which I don't like?
Anyone know any Juliana's?

I’ll add - my biggest problem is not ‘Julie’ but Julianna. So people pronouncing it Julie-anna, instead of Juliana (rhyme with banana). I just correct them (usually using saying ‘spelt and said like banana’), and they remember! And in these days of email addresses being names as well (especially work) you learn everyone’s proper name.

It’s my name! I love it.

Never been called Julie or Julia. The nickname is always Jules/Juls, however when I started work I began introducing myself as Juliana, and I found people didn’t automatically shorten it, as they did at school and uni.

Interestingly there is an alternative pronunciation with the J as a Y, like Jana/Yana, so occasionally people will asking if it is pronounced Juliana or Yuliana.

I love my name, always have.

Lovely name, but will be Ju or Jules….

Marcipex · 06/01/2022 11:51

Juliet is lovely too

Willdoitlater · 06/01/2022 11:38

Juliana, Julia, Julie, all very lovely indeed. All get shortened to Jules in my experience.

3peassuit · 06/01/2022 11:33

Lovely name.

I know a Juliana who claims it is never shortened, but actually everyone says Julia.

SummaLuvin · 06/01/2022 11:31

I like the name Juliana, really pretty. But don't use it if you would not be ok with Julie.

Is it inevitable? No, there will be plenty of women called Juliana who have never used any diminutive. But you cannot 100% guarantee your Juliana will use her full name, you can try your hardest and always introduce her as that, or heavily encourage other diminutives, but as soon as she goes to school you can no longer control it. She will mix independently she may be called Julie by her classmates, and she might like that, and give it's her name and not yours it's her decision to make.

Very pretty. I didn’t think about it being shortened to Julia but did think about it being shortened to Jules (which I also like).

KirstenBlest · 06/01/2022 11:19

Dislike it.

Julia is fine. The extra -na ruins it.
