Scarlett or Skye...or both?

Dd3 due in April. Do you prefer Scarlett or Skye? Wondering if we could have both - Scarlett, but nickname Skye...that would be great!
Her middle name is likely to be Eleanor and she has sisters called Rosie and Poppy.
Think I'm starting to go name search blind 🤪 Thanks

Skye is nicer but I like both
Or Skyler

HoliHormonalTigerlilly · 05/01/2022 17:09

Love Scarlett!

Minster2012 · 05/01/2022 17:02

I've not read the whole thread but what about Summer?

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 04/01/2022 21:41

Ooh, Sylvie would be gorgeous imo. Same "ee" ending as her sisters and a subtle nature link too like Rosie and Poppy (Sylvie means "from the woods/forest") without being quite as obvious a link as Skye and Scarlett (although I do like Skye too).

danascully96 · 04/01/2022 20:42

Scarlett sounds like a ravishing beauty to me, while Skye sounds more bohemian. If it were me, I'd choose Scarlett. A lot of people complain about the opening "Scar' syllable, but it doesn't bother me much. Scarlet red foxes in the winter are a lovely image, so I've always been drawn to the name.

Violet is a similar-sounding name if you're interested? There's also Sylvia/Sylvie!

ilovemykids5 · 04/01/2022 20:08

How about Skylar

Hopitihop · 03/01/2022 21:21

Scarlett !

Skye reminds me of the sky with an e in the end, a bit made up and not a proper name.

Good luck x

RuthW · 03/01/2022 17:24

@Nikki305

I like Scarlett and think you could get away with Skye as a nickname
Exactly this.
scottishnames · 03/01/2022 16:16

This is not a criticism, and it might not matter, but the place name Skye means either 'the island with lots of 'wings' (= peninsulas and headlands)' or 'the cloudy isle'.

Buddhabowl · 03/01/2022 16:04

I love both and I find it odd that other posters say they don't go with Rosie and Poppy. I think they go perfectly.
My preference is probably Skye as Scarlett has the nickname Scar which isn't great. I don't like Skye as a nickname for Scarlett, just seems odd, like you couldn't decide.

MadeOfStarStuff · 03/01/2022 15:49

Scarlett

SweetPotatoDumpling · 03/01/2022 10:00

@BahBumbug

Scarlett Skye is a lovely name! Use both, Skye as the middle name

Oh...I think having two 'S' names is a lot! Too alliterative! Like Sidney Snake, or Harry Hamster 😱 It would literally sound like someone was saying that the sky was red 🤦‍♀️

Ginger1982 · 03/01/2022 09:57

*not a nickname

Ginger1982 · 03/01/2022 09:57

Skye is not a much and for Scarlett, that's just silly. I would go for Scarlett.

BahBumbug · 03/01/2022 09:29

Scarlett Skye is a lovely name! Use both, Skye as the middle name

CMhater · 03/01/2022 09:05

I think the red theme is all a bit too much and cheapens otherwise nice names so therefore keep away from Scarlett (which without Poppy and Rosie siblings would be my choice).
I'd go Skye.

SpeedRunParent · 03/01/2022 09:00

Rosie and poppy are quite soft sounding words, Scarlett is much spikier so I wouldn't put them together. Skye, being only one syllable, fits better on the end of the list ( as in letter / card sign-offs normally start with oldest child's name down to the youngest) but there are softer sounding, single syllable names that would end that list nicely ( May, for instance or Faye, something like that).
I went two syllable, two syllable and then the last is three syllables. That also works quite well.
Eleanor has been done to death in these parts ( Shame because I always loved it but there's at least one in every class between tear 10 and year 6 around here, much like Olivia and, slightly less so, Grace.).

jackstini · 03/01/2022 08:32

I have a Scarlett so have to go with that Smile

Mumofgirls2017 · 03/01/2022 08:14

Scarlett is a bit themey with Rosie and Poppy as they’re all red but that can be a good thing depends what you like. Skye fits well too. I prefer Skye by Miles personally although know lots will disagree. I think Skye is ok as a nickname but it would need to be used almost exclusively from the start.

dotsandco · 03/01/2022 08:07

I don't like either with Poppy and Rosie - Scarlett makes your trio too 'red'.

Skye - just sounds weird to me, with Poppy and Rosie. I get 'blue' images with Skye and 'red' with the other two...I don't know...just doesn't go well 🤷‍♀️

I think that's the problem, once you start going down a 'themed' name route like you've done with flowery names, it's difficult to add another name. You either have to stick with the theme (eg Violet, Daisy) or go WAY off piste (eg Katharine, Hettie).

celestebellman · 03/01/2022 07:37

Not keen on either. Skye is more of a dog's name around here, and Scarlett is a bit harsh and feels like it might date - there are lots in my daughter's year group (year 8).
Eleanor Skye is nice. Or if you want to keep to a colour/ flower type theme, what about Violet, Saffron (Saffy), Amber? Or Cherry? (Maybe a bit too red!)

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 03/01/2022 06:35

Just Skye
Not Scarlett
Not together and not one a nickname for the other!

Neurodiversitydoctor · 03/01/2022 06:33

I think Scarlette- Skye is quite pretty. But of the 2 I'd go for Skye, I think Eleanor-Skye sounds nice.

OneOfTheGrundys · 03/01/2022 06:26

I’d not do both. Scarlett/Skye… red sky at night shepherds delight/red sky in the morning shepherds warning.
Even if not joined together it still makes me think of that!

DropYourSword · 03/01/2022 06:24

If my DS was a DD he would have been called Scarlett. I think it’s a beautiful strong name. And I think Skye is a perfect nickname too. Nicknames can be anything you want! You can definitely have both and I think it’s a name that suits your other DD’s.
