I love both names, especially Lily. But I don’t really like Lily-May together. I always hear a mum in the park call Lily-May! It’s just too common in my opinion.

MerryChristmasToYou · 03/01/2022 18:48

Lily will probably be one of many Lilys throughout her life.
Not keen on May

Hazel is nice but Lily Hazel is too many plants

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 03/01/2022 18:01

I prefer the May spelling personally. Mae is cute (Southern US vibes) and kinda feisty (Mae West) for me but May has the Victorian elegance and pretty floral link (Mayflower - a fragrant plant with pink/white blooms).

Lots of Lily’s. Over use has spoiled it for me it’s run of the mill now.

Both popular names from the esrly 1900s coming back into fashion
My grandmother was Lily, & a great aunt May, I love them both, but not together

@SleighbellsZ I'm actually wondering if I prefer May or Mae!! I love the spelling of Mae

May on its own is nice. I have 4 dc and know about 10 lily mays of various ages! Hazel is lovely.

SleighbellsZ · 02/01/2022 22:19

Lily is over done for me.
I love May, I know a newborn called this spelt Mae

TippledPink · 02/01/2022 22:18

Lily very popular- May I don't hear as a first name but seems to be every other girls middle name! Love Hazel but can see why you don't want it as a first name if it is your sisters name.

SummerLew · 02/01/2022 22:17

Both lovely

pinksquash13 · 02/01/2022 22:14

I like them both separately. Lily-May is incredibly overdone in my opinion. I once taught a class with 4 of them! I prefer May but I think Lily goes better with Hazel. Love Hazel btw.

@IamnotwhouthinkIam

Lily and May are lovely classic floral names. Would be nice for sisters but perhaps a bit much as a first/middle pairing. Of the two, I prefer May - it's very underused as a first name and has a subtle elegance imo.
Yes I thought so too thank you

Thanks all, Hazel is my sister's name hence the middle name choice! I do love the name Hazel also.

Alternatives to Lily are Lillian or Lilliana.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 02/01/2022 21:38

I love Hazel May.

Twinkleylight · 02/01/2022 21:38

I'd swap it to Hazel Lily or Hazel May as it's less popular. There are over 10 girls in my dd's various friendship circles who are either Lily or May.

DramaAlpaca · 02/01/2022 21:21

Both short, simple, pretty names. I like them. Also love Hazel. I think Lily Hazel flows better than May Hazel. I don't think Lily is wet at all!

ExpectingLady93 · 02/01/2022 21:04

@Luredbyapomegranate I know what you mean!

Much prefer May, Lily Is a bit wet.

May Lillian?

ExpectingLady93 · 02/01/2022 20:39

Thanks @toastofthetown leaning towards May more

Lily is so popular and has been for such a long time it's totally oversaturated and bland. I see Lily-May as a bit ten years ago, along with the hyphenated name trend. May is refreshing as a first name.
