Baby girl name Kendall?

If I name my baby girl Kendall, do you think everyone is just going to think I love the Kardashian's?

I honestly have never seen the show but really like the name Kendall. My Grandads name was Kenneth shortened to Ken, and I think it was be a subtle tribute to him to have a name that is also shorted to Kenny or Ken.

Our first daughters name is Dakota which has an American feel to it, so I think Kendall could go quite nicely with Dakota too.

What do you think?

Really not keen, makes me think of mint cake. But I'm not keen on Dakota either

Pemba · 05/01/2022 13:19

I was at school with a Kendall, so she must be in her late fifties now. Always felt sorry for her, as I thought her name was like a boy's. Then I think of the town in the Lake District, and mint cake.

Thefaceofboe · 04/01/2022 06:35

I loved the name Kendall (a big fan of the place!) but was put off by the kardiashian/Jenner association. However if you really love it, people will get over it

Enko · 03/01/2022 11:20

No not everyone. I dont follow the Kardashians and even though when I read it I was like ah yes one of them is Kendal my first thought was Kendall Rae a you tuber who does true crime.

Its all about what you are into. Its a pretty name though.

littleburn · 03/01/2022 10:24

Sorry OP, but it does immediately make me think of the Kardashians and I'd assume that's who you'd named her after. (Trash tv fan here too). Although the original tv show has ended the Kardashian's are still a huge presence on social media. Kendall is the least 'popular' and she has 209 million followers on Instagram.

Bear in mind too that Mumsnet isn't really the Kardashian's demographic. I do think for a lot of younger people (like your child's future teachers) the immediate association will be the Kardashian's, not the town or mint cake! Also, because of the Kardashian association, I think there's a risk of Kendall being one of those names (like Chardonnay or Khaleesi), that people can be a bit judgy about.

momtoboys · 03/01/2022 04:41

I had a visceral reaction even just reading the name. I detest anything Kardashian related.

JustLikea · 03/01/2022 04:40

I like it despite the Jenner / Kardashian association

mathanxiety · 03/01/2022 04:08

Nice name with a soft feel to it.

I think it would go really well with Dakota. It's most definitely a girl's name in the US.

Both names were popular in the US about 20-30 years ago.

All the Kendras I know are in their 50s. It's slid right off the popularity charts.

dinahsdishes · 03/01/2022 01:48

Kendall Roy from succession as per pp
But also Danny Kendall from Grange Hill cos I'm old - he died in the back of Bronsons car iirc

FairNotFair · 03/01/2022 01:28

@Kanaloa One of my absolute favourite programmes!

Kanaloa · 03/01/2022 01:03

Which is quite cute!

Kanaloa · 03/01/2022 01:03

@FairNotFair

I guess we’re into the trashiest of trash tv! Even when Kendall grows taller than Jill it’s still ‘my little Kendall.’

dangerrabbit · 03/01/2022 00:00

I prefer it spelt with 1 L rather than 2, which I associate with Jenner

dangerrabbit · 02/01/2022 23:59

I know an adult Kendal with 1 L like the town

FairNotFair · 02/01/2022 23:57

@Kanaloa

It’s a nice name. My first thought was Jill from Dance Moms ‘my little Kendall’ Grin

Although I do think people would think of the Kardashians I don’t necessarily think they would assume you were a huge fan.

But yes I think it’s a nice name and Dakota & Kendall sound well for sisters!

That was my first thought too @Kanaloa Grin
AliceMcK · 02/01/2022 23:51

It also makes me* bloody predictive

AliceMcK · 02/01/2022 23:50

Sadly yes, I’ve never watched it but unfortunately know who they are.Naldo makes me think of a playboy bunny for some reason.

I love the thought of naming your dd after your grandfather, all my children have significant names and I generally don’t care what others think, but given how popular the kardashians are I’d probably not want to use this name. You could use as a middle name or how about McKenzie?

Xmasbaby11 · 02/01/2022 23:45

I like it. I know it as a male name from Succession., Kendall Roy.

You'd have to be comfortable with the possibility of it being shortened to Ken.

accidentlygothereagain · 02/01/2022 23:39

I also think of the Kardashians. However Kendall is about 26 years older than your baby so the name association may not be within her generation?

BeefSupreme · 02/01/2022 23:34

@generalh

I taught a girl once with that name. She would be about 29 now.
I know a 29yo Kendall. Was 1992 a bumper year for Kendalls?
Snoopsnoggysnog · 02/01/2022 23:28

I really like it. It looks and sounds nice. I like Kenna as well.

BlueSkyeThinker · 02/01/2022 23:22

Oops! Sorry, wrong quote there - I was taking the Cockermouth bait.

BlueSkyeThinker · 02/01/2022 23:21

You're not wrong there.[/quote]
Or Drigg.

Aspatria has a certain ring, though.

WarmForDecember · 02/01/2022 22:26

@Ellmau I really, really wanted baby 3 to be Kentigern if a boy. DH just wasn't having it and she turned out to be a girl anyway but for some reason I never thought of Kentigerna!

I really like Kendra. Kezia is lovely too although not got the Ken start. McKenzie and McKenna are both used as girls names and I have heard of sisters called Dakota and McKenna although the American accent pronounced it a lot more like 'M-Kinna'

FOTTFSOFTFOASM · 02/01/2022 21:21
