What name would suit this character?

I’m writing a manuscript but I’m struggling to name the main character.

She’s in her late 30s. Working class, British. Ruthless, but for the greater good, beautiful, clever. I’d like something feminine but hard sounding, if that makes sense.

Any ideas?

Jo is a good shout.

Or Vicky or Becky or Carla.

Anyone at my school called Farrah, Francesca, Georgina, Harriet or Aurora(!) would've stuck out like a sore thumb.
It's also tickles me that those names represent MNers perceptions of standard working class names.

Ok I'm late thirties and from a very working class background, girls I went to school with were;
Sam/Samantha
Laura
Louise
Emma
Michelle/Shell
Rebecca/Becky
Deanna
Claire/Clare
Leanne
Victoria/more often known as Vicky
Gemma
Sarah
The odd Christie/Kirsty

Almost all names were shortened even Gemmas were Gem, Emma, Em, Leanne, Lee, Sarah, Sare(?) etc in general conversation

Some of the others sound too posh I think.

Jo was usually short for Joanne, Jo-Anne (these kind of names were very popular, I knew a Leigh-Anne!) or Joanna at that time. Josephine more likely to be shortened to Josie.

Character's mother (in case it's relevant) would probably have an 'een' name e.g. Christine, Kathleen, Maureen, Pauline etc.

Lexie
Carla
Sam

Please choose a name appropriate for the age she was born, and do the same for the other characters. So, e.g., if you call her Jo, don't call her mother (presumably born mid 1950s) a name like Emilia.

Based on women I know/girls I went to school with: Kay, Gemma, Natalie, Tasha, Louise, Amy, Laura, Kate, Joanne, Stacey, Victoria (Vicki), Lindsay, Jessica, Jennifer, Caroline, Tasha, Melissa, Rebecca, Christie, Chantal, Charlene, Jay, Jade, Keeley, Danielle, Kerry, Kelly, Charlotte, Kayleigh.

If you go with Jo, she would more likely be a Joanne than a Josephine. Smile
