Boys Names Shortlist: Help make it shorter!

BlusteringBoobies · 01/01/2022 17:22

Hi all

We are completely stuck on boys names! I'm going to be induced next week with our second DS and we have a short list but don't really have any that we think is 'the one'

We already have one DS who is 2 and has an 'ie' name (think Charlie).

What do people think of the below list? Any favourites or additions along these lines? We want something that is not particularly common (but we both do like Jack!) but not too unusual!

Thanks!

Jack
Mack
Percy
Miles
Morgan
Avery
Hudson
Huxley
Cooper
Ashton
Otis

Congratulations, welcome baby Miles.

whatausername · 15/01/2022 13:12

Congratulations and hello Miles! I love when OPs come back with an update 😀

ofwarren · 15/01/2022 13:07

Congratulations!
Miles is beautiful 😍

Chicaboo13 · 15/01/2022 13:02

If you like 'ack' sounds, what about Zack? I dated two in my teens, both very handsome and fun so that's what I associate the name with now!

BlusteringBoobies · 15/01/2022 12:56

Thank you all so much for your thoughts and suggestions

Baby Miles made an appearance on Tuesday and absolutely suits his chosen name.

He is home and settled and receiving lots of cuddles from his big brother

Oop , ignore the typos!

ItsSunnyOutside · 13/01/2022 13:14

I like Jack, Mack and Cooper best from the list. Miles is lovely too actually.
My least faves are Percy, Morgan and Huxley. I'm with you on Percy op, it sounds like a sad and deflated name, I don't know why I think that thoigh, I don't know wany Percys!

caz198917 · 13/01/2022 13:05

Jack all the way!

halloweenie13 · 13/01/2022 00:44

OP which name did you end up choosing?

KiloWhat · 03/01/2022 06:19

Miles, Cooper and Ashton

Nice choices. I would add Mason to the list.

I think Miles is my favourite of your 3

halloweenie13 · 03/01/2022 05:33

Miles love 1
Morgan 4
Avery 3
Hudson 3
Cooper love 2

Skeumorph · 02/01/2022 20:25

As other ideas I mean! Also liked Otis

Skeumorph · 02/01/2022 20:25

Ah not a fan of the ones left but of them, it would be Miles. I find it a bit smarmy estate agent though!

Of your original list, I would have suggested Spencer, Milo, Rufus.

Mumofgirls2017 · 02/01/2022 20:19

Favourites are Percy and Otis. But realise not everyone’s cup of tea. Safer choices probably Jack or Miles and probably go with your older one well.

BlusteringBoobies · 02/01/2022 09:44

Thanks guys! Yes, we both love Jack but it's incredibly clunky with our surname.

I think our preference is now

Miles
Cooper
Ashton

As I said, nice to have something to take my mind off the induction worry!!

Appreciate all thoughts on this thread, it's been super helpful!

Just leave Miles on the list.

TenThousandSpoons · 02/01/2022 09:32

Sorry just realised Jack is off your list now. Out of the three shortlisted I’d go for Ashton (but prefer Asher).

SparkleWhale · 02/01/2022 09:31

Jack and Miles are the best. I also love Cooper.

TenThousandSpoons · 02/01/2022 09:31

Jack is my favourite by a long way. I only know one Jack who is 13. Wouldn’t say it is too popular any more.

Percy Jackson is the main Percy reference for kids these days (or Percy pig sweets).

BlusteringBoobies · 02/01/2022 09:20

@whatausername Thanks! I will come back and update on the chosen name.

I think we'll stick to keeping these three in our back pocket until we lay eyes on the little chap and see what fits.

Just trying to focus on other things at the moment as my first induction was 4 days of horrificness with failed epidurals and complications so am hoping this one will be better! Having the potential names in mind will help to be thinking positively!

Fantastic! Glad you've managed to shorten your list. Good luck with the birth and, if you feel happy to, please do share what you decide in the end :-)

GoodnightGrandma · 01/01/2022 21:30

Miles.

Spidey66 · 01/01/2022 21:16

I like Jack, and Otis is Ok. Not keen on the rest. I don't like surnames as first names, ruling out Hudson, Cooper etc.

I'm old enough to remember Percy Sugden too but my first thought was Percy Pig sweets!

HacerSonarSusPasos · 01/01/2022 21:10

One vote for Avery

BlusteringBoobies · 01/01/2022 21:06

Thanks so much everyone for your input!

I am warming to Miles due to the love for it on this thread. I had really worried it was a bit too posh sounding!

We've ruled out both Jack and Mack as they do run into our surname too much when said out loud (as pp suggested)

We're down to Miles, Cooper and Ashton

This is after having read a lot of comments on here and these three seem to be the most popular on this thread and they are our favourites.

Agree that Hudson sounds like a murky river, Huxley now associated with a pig, Otis sounds a bit 'bloaty' (?), Jack and Mack too clunky with surname, Percy too wimpy sounding (to me, sorry for any offence!), Avery is a bit too 'out there' and Morgan does rhyme with Organ and could have a bit of teasing... (but mostly my DH confessed he didn't really like it)

Grateful for all your inputs, I didn't think we'd get to an agreed 3 that I actually like!
