What do you think flows best?

(If you don't like either, no need to comment as we are settled on these two and just wondering what order they're nicest Smile )

My teenage dd is an Evangeline. You found that throughout primary school she was called by her full name - the school asked me my preference and I told them that I always used her proper name and do they followed my lead.
In secondary school it's more mixed - that was led by dd who, like many teenagers, wanted to do the opposite of what her parents had done and also cba to always write out her full name. But many teachers still use her proper name.
When shortened, hers has been Evie, never Van or Jelly. Evie is very popular but it's popular because it's a very pretty name. I expect dd will chop and change throughout her life to suit herself.

@pompomsgalore

Evangeline Mercy is my favourite, r ally beautiful.

Mercy Evangeline sound alike something you'd shout out when you stub your toe and don't want to swear.

This ^ I'm afraid
pastypirate · 01/01/2022 12:12

I prefer Mercy first because it's very classy and seldom used but either combination is lovely. She's not going to be called either Mercy P or Evangeline P (whatever your surname initial is) all her school life because there are 3 kids in the class with that name

MsTSwift · 01/01/2022 12:00

My worry is she will join the legions of Eve/Eva/Evie which every other girl seems to be called

solania · 01/01/2022 11:58

I prefer Mercy Evangeline but agree that it sounds like an exclamation (or as my husband said, like you’re thanking Evangeline in French!) and I also agree that both ways round sound like a nun's name! They are both beautiful names though

AnotherBloodyYear · 01/01/2022 11:05

Both sound like the names of a Nun.

Sister Evangeline Mercy

@MyGreenTutu

The question is only which of these two names do you want to be using daily for the rest of your life and which can be relegated to occasional use only? Because that's the reality of a middle name; it rarely sees the light of day after the first few weeks of telling people about the baby's arrival. (FWIW I prefer Mercy. Evangeline is a lot to live with on a daily basis and will inevitably be shortened to something else.)
Not necessarily true. I use my daughters first and middle name every day. It's just who she is.
FindingMeno · 01/01/2022 11:05

Mercy is so beautiful it would go first for me.

RedRobin100 · 01/01/2022 11:04

Evangeline Mercy.

miltonj · 01/01/2022 11:03

Mercy Evangeline

mafted · 01/01/2022 10:25

Evangeline Mercy. The Evangeline I know is Jelly or Van to her family but only ever Evangeline outside the house. It's a beautiful name.
While I like the sound of it I cannot imagine enjoying being called Mercy, sorry. I think the begging for Mercy jokes would wear very thin.

FeedMeSantiago · 01/01/2022 10:20

I love the name Evangeline so Evangeline Mercy for me.

RuthW · 01/01/2022 10:01

@junebirthdaygirl

Evangeline Mercy. I think Evangeline is too long for a second name but Mercy is a perfect second name.
Agreed. Love Evangeline.
ParadiseLaundry · 01/01/2022 09:59

Evangeline Mercy. Beautiful name.

Insertfunnyname · 01/01/2022 09:53

Evangeline Mercy

MinnieJackson · 01/01/2022 09:51

I've got a friend called Scarlett Merci, she used to hate it but it's the coolest name ever. I think whichever name you prefer should go first.

Synchrony · 01/01/2022 09:47

@RedToothBrush

Evangeline will be Eva. Eva is too common. She will disappear between the naming sofa cushions of life.

Evangeline will actually only ever be used in a full as a first name by her parents when you are being formal or telling her off!

Definitely Mercy. That way she will be different and Mercy Evangeline not Eva Mercy.

I agree with this
LadyLazarus40 · 01/01/2022 09:44

Evangeline Mercy - beautiful name.

Onlinedilema · 01/01/2022 09:43

I prefer Evangeline so would use that as a first name. People find their own Nick names so that's beyond your control.

Aderyn21 · 01/01/2022 09:40

Some people will always shorted names, so if that's swaying your decision bear in mind that Mercy will also be called 'merc' in school too.
Personally I like long name followed by short name - it flows better I think

pompomsgalore · 01/01/2022 09:37

Evangeline Mercy is my favourite, r ally beautiful.

Mercy Evangeline sound alike something you'd shout out when you stub your toe and don't want to swear.

MakingTheBestOfIt · 01/01/2022 09:35

Two really beautiful names which sound lovely in either order.

I echo the above posters who said to pick the one you want to be using every day, and that Evangeline will inevitably end up shortened.

PizzasPlease · 01/01/2022 09:35

Evangeline Mercy

MyGreenTutu · 01/01/2022 09:34

@showersandflowers

Evangeline Mercy. What beautiful names! My SIL is called Evangeline and it's shortened to Evie, which I think is a lovely name Smile
Agree it's pretty, but Evie has been one of the most frequently used UK girls names for over a decade. There are a LOT of them around. With preferred names like these two it doesn't sound like the OP wants to fall into ubiquity.
