Micah for a boy?

Eggsandavo · 30/12/2021 17:55

Pregnant with our third boy... surname is Njie (west African) and my husband would like something Muslim (though not 100% essential if it's a perfect name).

I like Micah but my other kids (Logan 14 and Zayne 3) don't like it, they think it's a girls name.

What are the opinions on this? Any other suggestions? Baby is mixed race if that makes a difference.

TIA! Smile

Micah is a biblical boy's name pronounced My-kah.

Doomscrolling · 31/12/2021 09:06

I love it pronounced the traditional way (My-ka).

Turtles4543 · 31/12/2021 09:03

Makes me think of red dead 2

MyOtherProfile · 31/12/2021 09:01

Absolutely Eggs.

Eggsandavo · 31/12/2021 08:33

@MyOtherProfile

The siblings will get over it. It does illustrate why it's wise not to tell anyone the name before baby is born though. Everyone thinks they get a say.
This is true. My mum also doesn't like it but her opinion isn't important to me.

@greenteafiend

If the siblings are not keen, what do you think of Mike as a nickname? He will probably end up going by Mike in any case.
I was thinking I'd end up calling him Mickey Mouse as a baby nickname so you may have a point Smile

I've only ever come across pronounced as My-kah, so partly depends how irritated you'd be by having to correct people.

DramaAlpaca · 30/12/2021 20:54

I've never heard of it being pronounced anything other than MY-kah. I'm certain that's the traditional pronunciation.

I've never heard of Micah Richards so can't comment. The pronunciation MEE-kah makes it sound more feminine to me though.

Eggsandavo · 30/12/2021 20:49

@17caterpillars1mouse

I love it, it's a really handsome name. I've only heard it as a boys name and tbh I wouldn't not choose a name on the opinion of a teenager and a toddler
Agree but at the same time, I want them to bond and be happy with it

@DramaAlpaca

It's a biblical male name pronounced MY-kah. Go for it, it's nice. It's nothing to do with your boys what you call their brother.
We have also had the my-cah me-cah debate and as pp mentioned, Micah Richards is pronounced as "me".

Lovely name! Only ever heard it used for a boy.

DotDotDotDotDot · 30/12/2021 20:06

I think it’s a lovely boys name - assuming the Mike-ah pronunciation.
I think Reuben, Ezra, Asher and Caleb have a similar feel.
