Middle name for Annabelle

Annabelle is one of our top choices for a girl. But we are struggling with a middle name. We have a short, one syllable surname. What about...

Annabelle is enough it's essentially 2 names already imho. Rose works, but I personally don't understand these filler middle names for the sake of it...no meaning behind the choice and generally unused in everyday life anyhow.

A name to honour someone or a name you really liked for your child so they could adopt it if they decided they didn't like their chosen name makes sense, same if there were 2 people in their life who had the same name and it might cause confusion!

I knew of a hairdresser who worked in a salon with someone with the same name, she used the middle name so when a client phoned to book an appointment the receptionist knew who they wanted to cut their hair

Hello there! I named my daughter Annabelle after my parents, Anna for Anne (my mother's middle name) and Belle for Bill (what my father went by instead of William). Her middle name is Reese :) So, Annabelle Reese. She just turned 9 at the beginning of December and has begged me for a reborn doll for ages now. Well, I finally got her one. She's not put her baby down since it arrived! She turned to me to help name her and I'd suggested Ellie, so I was actually googling to see what the meaning of the name was and stumbled upon this site and this post! I'm glad I did. It's difficult to name our children. Something they'll have for the rest of their lives and will have to learn to spell! (Which is why I never really went with odd spellings, even though I do kind of like them lol). I hope I could contribute to the middle name for Annabelle :) It took me quite a while to figure out a middle name for my Anna, so I understand. Now that we have a first name for her baby doll, it's off to figure out a middle name lol

@ThirdElephant Yes, I suppose Poe isn't known for his cheerfulness. Whilst I actively dislike sad books, I do love a good melancholy poem.

Although I must admit, I prefer "For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore."

Still like the name Annabel Lee, and "Play misty for me."

Annabelle Rose and Annabelle Grace were my initial thoughts.

Emily is too much of a mouthful.

Annabel - a lovely classic name.

Annabelle is just not in the same class - frilly and OTT.

Any middle name would go with Annabel really as it’s both soft and girly but strong, with the bel ending.

Annabelle - anything too feminine looks really fussy, so you’d have to stick to a quite hard name not to make it look like a doll with massive ringlets type name!

Annabel Joy is lovely and would do for both spellings

I love Edgar Allen Poe's poem, Annabel Lee.

Different spelling, obviously, but whenever I think of Annabelle/Annabel, I think of that. Also, Annabel Lee was used in the old Clint Eastwood movie, "Play Misty for me."

But she dies! Not a nice association.

'The wind came out of the cloud, chilling and killing my Annabel Lee'.

Thanks everyone. It looks like Annabelle Emily isn't too popular.

We like Annabelle Rose but agree that Rose is often seen as a "filler" which puts us off a bit.

I like Annabelle Charlotte the most from your suggestions

I'm reading these and I'm still on the Annabelle Emilia (which I spelt incorrectly initially 😬). It's not fussy. It uses the front part of the mouth - feels nice to say!

I'm standing by Emilia (but not Emily, that doesn't work!).

I'm going to disagree- it's very fussy, particularly paired with Annabelle.
