I actually find it quite an ugly sounding name, but appear to be in the minority here.

@ofwarren rather than "low-iss" you pronounce the "oi" like you do in oink, or "oi you over there!" So Lois becomes a one syllable name, and not a pretty one at that! Kind of reminds me of louse, but uglier!

I like the English pronunciation but the Welsh one isn't pleasant, so it would depend on that for me.
What's the Welsh pronunciation?

It's fine, not thrilling or wonderful to me but not bad either.Less popular now than it was 15 years ago for some reason.

One of my dear friends called her DD Lois, and I have to admit it, I don’t love it.

It’s almost just a bunch of letters to me (yes, I know, every name is)…
