Barney.

I've woken up loving it, I think it's a really sweet little boys name, but worried people will think it's silly or be reminded of the dinosaur or Barney rubble. Also do we call him barnabus or barnaby or are these worse?

I’m not keen on Barney, but I love Barnaby.

VenusClapTrap · 27/12/2021 08:31

I don’t like it personally. It’s too comedic, too cartoon character for me.

lisaandalan · 26/12/2021 21:36

I like Barney. X

Riverlee · 26/12/2021 08:41

@Onlinedilema

I really like Barnaby. Loved Barnaby the Bear.
Me too.

Barnabby the Bear my Name…(now singing theme tune)

Riverlee · 26/12/2021 08:40

Barney name.

The first Barney I thought of was Barney Walsh, Bradley Walsh’s son.

Also like Barnaby.

All names can have a negative connotation if you look hard enough. Doesn’t stop parents calling their dc William (Willy), etc

Mumofgirls2017 · 26/12/2021 08:35

I’d go for Barnaby nn Barney then he has options when older.

Hohofortherobbers · 24/12/2021 22:49

Barney is nice, I know a Barney and I have never thought of the dinosaur or the cave man

GiantWaterBottle · 24/12/2021 22:46

I love the name Barney. I think short for Barnaby is best, Barnaby is also a lovely name. There was the most handsome boy at my secondary school called Barney. He was very popular.

Onlinedilema · 24/12/2021 22:45

Loved Barnaby the Bear.

deadlanguage · 24/12/2021 22:20

Doesn’t Barney also mean an argument? As in have a Barney?

Nillynally · 24/12/2021 22:01

@Marcipex

I like it, especially Barnabas. Bernard is awful. Look at Not Now Bernard to convince you.
Oh that book makes me so sad! No not Bernard, that's a step too far!

Bernard is awful, Barney as a full name isn't great, Barnabas is ok, Barnaby, nicknamed Barney is great!

Marcipex · 24/12/2021 20:40

I like it, especially Barnabas.

LadyWithLapdog · 24/12/2021 20:36

Barney Rubble from the Flintstones, who will be long forgotten by most by now.

Barnaby and Barney are not NMS but harmless. I doubt your son would thank you for calling him Barnabas though.

deadlanguage · 24/12/2021 19:26

I think Barney Stinson which isn’t a great role model! I quite like Barnabas but would have to be a middle name for me I think as I’m not keen on Barney for that reason. Bernard is awful.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 24/12/2021 19:22

Oh no, not Bernard though! Barnabas or even just Barney would be preferable to that!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 24/12/2021 19:17

Barnaby sounds nice - cute but somehow feels grown up enough too imo. Barnabas is a bit brave for me personally and yes, I'm afraid Barney does remind me of a cartoon/children's character, sorry! (Flintstones, purple dinosaur and Simpsons drunk character).

ofwarren · 24/12/2021 18:39

I'm sorry but I think it's dreadful.
Instant thoughts of the purple dinosaur.

mangodreams · 24/12/2021 18:31

Not a fan personally, much prefer Bailey.

Buddhabowl · 24/12/2021 18:28

I've always liked Barney but my DH hates it. I've also had awful reactions in real life, people seem to think its a bit of a joke name.
I still love it though, and Barnaby.

Toomanypeople · 24/12/2021 18:17

Barney is fine on its own, if you want a longer version please chose anything but bernard

AdaColeman · 24/12/2021 18:08

The Barney I know is really a Bernard.

Luredbyapomegranate · 24/12/2021 18:02

Not Bernard OP!

STEP away from Bernard.
