Poor kid.

Happenchance · 30/12/2021 20:42

@Princessbelle7

We have decided on Braelynn. Her middle name will be Alyssa or Avery. I can’t wait to meet her 😁
I would use Alyssa as a middle name. It's nicer and Brae Avery sounds like Bravery.

Delilah! As long as u don't mind shortening to lilah or similar when needed.

Pineapples9087 · 28/12/2021 23:23

I love Alyssa, but I am biased as I have a 2 year old dd named Alyssa! People are constantly spelling and pronouncing it wrong though which used to really bug me but now I'm used to it. (I knew an Alyssa growing up so I never realised how often people would struggle with the name tbh).

mygenericusername · 28/12/2021 21:44

I always lived Blair but I tried to avoid the Americanised names

mathanxiety · 28/12/2021 18:38

If you're looking for contemporary American-style names, try -

Harper
Avery
Paisley
Finley
Everly
Brooklyn
Aubrey
Kinsley
Savannah
Kennedy
Lennon
Kenzie
Brynley
Carrington
Remington
Kensington
Reese
Ember
Teagan
Quinn
Hadley
Addison
Skyler
Emberley
McKinley

Names ending in -lyn or -lynn or with a -yn ending instead of -on are dated. The exception is Brooklyn because that's the name of a place.

anothersquintyposter · 28/12/2021 18:35

Claire is my favourite on your list

MadameFantabulosa · 28/12/2021 18:21

Braelynn sounds like the noise a donkey makes.

Adelin is a boy’s name where I live.

mathanxiety · 28/12/2021 18:18

It's the name of Sarah Palin's 20 year old daughter. So yes, it's dated.

Most of your American names were popular between 15/20 and 35 years ago.

Vegetalienne · 28/12/2021 18:16

I like Ava, Amelia and Brooke from your list. Not keen on the others.

Princessbelle7 · 28/12/2021 18:13

Is Piper dated?

OP posts:
mathanxiety · 28/12/2021 18:09

Delilah isn't dated.

mathanxiety · 28/12/2021 18:08

Braelynn is not only dated, it was only used by what Australians call 'bogans'.

givemepiece · 28/12/2021 17:01

Braelynn, I really love this name and I think it’s very pretty and underused, I prefer spelling it Braelynn over Braelyn (nn brae)

There's a reason it's underused GrinGrin

MerryChristmasToYou · 28/12/2021 13:52

That's right, @mishmased, depending on context

The El in names like Elizabeth, Gabriel, Samuel, Joel, Daniel, Elijah etc means God

Princessbelle7 · 28/12/2021 13:49

Elli-ar-na

OP posts:
Princessbelle7 · 28/12/2021 13:46

Wow I didn’t realise so many of my names are dated! I only thought it was Claire, Brooke, Bailey, Alyssa, Madison and maybe Macy and Delilah. I thought the others were more modern especially Braelynn. We still aren’t too sure but she will either be named:

Madison (nn Maddie)
Adelyn, I think this looks more modern than Adeline and Adeline just seems “Ada-line” to me (nn Addie which I’ve always loved)
Piper
Elliana, I prefer this spelling with 2 ns, Eliana looks odd in my opinion with 1 n. (nn Ellie)
Macy
Braelynn, I really love this name and I think it’s very pretty and underused, I prefer spelling it Braelynn over Braelyn (nn brae)
Alyssa
Peyton
Or just Ellie on it’s own

Riley - overused
Peyton - meh
Ellie - as a nickname
Elliana - pronounced?
Macey/Macy - no
Bailey - dogs name
Braelynn - nope
Ava - overused
Amelia - overused
Delilah - ok
Alyssa - meh
Madison - no

mishmased · 28/12/2021 13:36

@Princessbelle7 if you like a name go with it. We cannot all name our babies'timeless' names likes Charlotte, William, Atticus, Catherine or whatever is deemed timeless or will not date. Now you did ask for people's opinions tho 😃

mishmased · 28/12/2021 13:28

@MerryChristmasToYou Eli means my God. I missed the 'my' in my post.

Princessbelle7 · 28/12/2021 13:27

Yes Emersyn is a female version of Emerson.

MerryChristmasToYou · 28/12/2021 13:20

@mishmased

For those saying Elliana is fussy, complicated or a stretched form of Ellie, it is not. It is a name on its own. It is Hebrew and is spelt ELIANA (meaning my God has answered) ELI is god in Hebrew. From your list I like: Ava Alyssa Delilah (wouldn't choose it because of the biblical story but that's me. Still lovely). Eliana (I think you would need a strong sounding middle name with it).

Is Emersyn the female of Emerson?

@mishmased, It's El that means God not Eli

Elliana will be yet another Ellie, and is Eliana Ellie-Ah-na, El-yanna, Elllie-Anna or something else?

mintich · 28/12/2021 11:10

I only like Brooke and Delilah out of that list. I'm much prefer Brooke, it's a lovely name
