I currently have a 6 day old with no name.
We have been through every name, and At first it was Edith (Edie) for short! But The more I said it, the more it didn’t sit right!
The other name we like is Esme!! We have another daughter called Mabel!

Does Esme and Mabel sound okay together? I think I’ve said so many names over the past 6 days, I’ve lost track!

Help name her before Christmas x

My Aunt was Esme. She was a woman far ahead of her time. She travelled all over Europe in the 1950s, was a cable maker for a living, wonderful seamstress, great with a hammer and incredibly stylish. I think it's beautiful. Congratulations!

Bellafrenum · 23/12/2021 08:35

Both nice but Edith/Edie is by far my favourite

seriousandloyal · 23/12/2021 08:34

Love Esme x
Congratulations on your new baby!

KirstenBlest · 23/12/2021 08:29

They'll be Mabel & Esme and they go together fine.
Not keen on Edie - ED is erectile dysfunction or eating disorder.

Edie will get shortened to Ede, which isn't very nice

finallychangedmyusername · 23/12/2021 08:22

Congrats! I think Esme is lovely with Mabel.

Both have a similar meaning (Mabel is from Amabilis meaning loveable) and Esme means esteemed or loved.

Amabilis is a Latin name and Esme has French roots. Finally both Mabel and Esme are top 100 names (according to the most recent dataset).

To me they are perfect together.

WinoAnon · 23/12/2021 07:15

They're both good names but if you wanted to keep the Edie nickname Eden is an option too.

Crowdfundingforcake · 23/12/2021 07:14

Esme is nice but Edith is a really lovely name.

Newestname002 · 23/12/2021 07:14

Love the name Esme. 🌹

GoodnightGrandma · 23/12/2021 07:12

@LagerthaofKattegat

I love Mabel. Esme, I never know. Is it Esmeeee or Esmay?

Thanks

Ez-mae no Y sound.
Gassylady · 23/12/2021 07:09

Team Esme all the way - one of my favourite book characters is Granny (Esme) Weatherwax 👏👏

I love Esme, I also like Elsie too, not keen on Edith. Mable is such a lovely name OP, Mable & Esme.

elfran · 23/12/2021 06:59

They're both lovely. I prefer Edith fwiw, but either go nicely with Mabel. (In fact Mabel must go particularly well with those E names as I've considered it as an option for a second, and I have an Enid!)

They sound lovely together

delshell · 23/12/2021 05:50

Congratulations on your baby girl! Mabel and Esme sound perfect together ❤️

DotDotDotDotDot · 23/12/2021 05:47

They’re both lovely. Although Esme has the pronunciation/different spelling issues. Edith/Edie is probably more straight forward, in case those issues might bother you. Congratulations btw.

garlictwist · 23/12/2021 04:51

Im afraid I really dislike the name Esme. I think it's quite ugly. But clearly I'm in the minority!

RichPetunia · 23/12/2021 04:37

Esme and Mabel go great together. Lovely names.

Dammitthisisshit · 23/12/2021 04:23

I know siblings called Mabel and Esme. Seems to go to me!

Ruthietuthie · 23/12/2021 04:13

I LOVE the name Esme. One of my absolute favorites. Edith is lovely too, but Esme is my pick.
And many congratulations on your little girl.

Ilovemycatsomuch · 23/12/2021 03:25

Love Esme!
